Double “T” Oyster Ranch located in Southern MD has been farming oysters since 2007. The father and son partnership, Rick Meatyard and Spike Meatyard, have introduced adaptive growing techniques to an already 5 generation operation of traditional oyster harvesting, and we have found an increase in the quality of the Herring Creek oysters. With the incorporation of raised beds, or Brooders as we ref
er to at Double “T”, we maintain healthy water flow and nutrient distribution on all angles for our crop from direct flushing tidal movement from the Lower Potomac River--only 17 miles north of the Chesapeake Bay. We tend to our crop seasonally to inspect their growth and density per Brooder, cull or loosen them up so they grow into a desirable well rounded rugged oyster ready for the raw bar, your famous oyster stew, or rockefeller. Not only are these oysters well pampered but they are true Maryland oysters that have a sweet brackish taste, which embodies our geographic location--like a fine wine an oyster embodies the Terrior of it’s region. Rick and Spike invite you to try their home grown gems!
