Earlier this month, Muoi Tieu quietly reached our two-year anniversary as a brick and mortar restaurant. It’s hard to believe that much time has gone by since we opened our doors. We are so grateful to the Takoma Park community and greater DMV for your support of our little family-run establishment. There has been no greater joy for us than to see guests from all walks of life come in and enjoy (or encounter for the first time) our Vietnamese home cooking. None of this would have been possible had my family not immigrated to the US all those decades ago to escape a war torn country. It would not have been possible had we not been accepted by the American community where we settled in Minnesota. And it would not be possible now without all of our dedicated staff, the majority of whom are immigrants. Unfortunately, we haven’t been in the mood to celebrate as we watch the tragedies taking place back home in Minnesota and all around the country. We will celebrate our anniversary at a later time but for now, in case folks are looking for a little light and relief from everything, our happy hour menu will be available all night for the rest of the week. Though we are in TKPK now, our hearts remain and our thoughts are with friends and family in MN and immigrant communities around the country during this difficult time.
The sign above may look familiar to many of you. It greets everyone in our front window and has been part of Muoi Tieu from the very beginning. It says “All are welcome here” in Vietnamese and was created by a Minnesota artist.
