People are starting to catch on that hojicha is amazing. We source our hojicha from Kyoto, Japan, and it’s a perfect blend of nutty and roasty. Hojicha is a roasted green tea, and we love it as a latte, especially iced right now. Or try it in our Civic Classic, which mixes espresso with hojicha and our housemade vanilla.

This washed process Peru from Valle El Palomar has been the dark horse of this year’s stunning coffees. Produced by COOPAGRY Producers, Yapaz Bajo and sourced from this coffee has notes of dark chocolate, citrus, almond, cinnamon, and fig and scored a cup score of 83-85. Available in store and online.

Thank you to Olivia and Jack of Duchin Builds for helping us get our new sign up! We’re so proud to have so many incredibly generous and thoughtful folks be part of our work. If you’re new here, Civic is the realization of a vision, a dream, and a collaboration from an entire community. Hundreds of people gave to a crowdfunding campaign that we launched a couple years ago to help cover construction costs. Dozens of friends helped us clean, paint, and transform the space. We believe in doing small business in a way that prioritizes people over profit, invests in community, and centers second chance employment. ❤️

Our new Ethiopia has landed. This natural process hails from Limu in southwestern Ethiopia, an area growing in their production of specialty coffee. The notes are very bright and complex, floral, mango, minty, juicy heavy body, honey, brown sugar, tropical fruit finish. Grab a bag in the cafe or online!

May is Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Heritage (AANHPI) Month - and we’re celebrating NEXT SATURDAY 5/16 with food by and sweet art by PLUS, all month we want to highlight some amazing children’s books. Buy any of the books in this deck from and show us in the cafe for a free drip or $1 off any drink. And while we’re here, it feels particularly important in this specific moment in time and space to celebrate and honor the folks who make up this huge (and seemingly randomly lumped) group of people. The traditional land of the Coast Salish people has been home to many groups of people, and the home we call Tacoma has famously kicked out the entire Chinese and Japanese populations from the city, and not that long ago. History is a teacher as these atrocities are also present day events, and we owe it to our ancestors to learn about the people, stories, and cultures that make a vibrant part of our society. More to come!
