This month we're highlighting Pure (2006) by Janusz Walentynowicz, a cast glass sculpture that stops you in your tracks.

Born in Poland and shaped by the cultures of Poland, Denmark, and the United States, Walentynowicz brings a layered perspective to his work. The piece is deceptively simple in form, a handbag rendered entirely in glass, but the material does something the original never could.

As the artist puts it, glass insists you look into it, not just at it. Come see it in person at Hotel Murano.

Glass Fest Northwest takes over the Museum of Glass on the 8th, Art on the Ave fills the 6th Ave Tacoma Business District on the 9th, and the 24th Annual Juried Local Art Exhibition runs at Tacoma Community College through August 20th.
