Just a reminder that we will be holding a celebration of life for Dean “Dino” Cubic, tomorrow 9/20 upstairs at the Syracuse Dino 5:30-9:30 pm.

It's with very heavy hearts that we share the passing of our longtime friend and one of the originals, Dean "Dino" Cubic.

You can't spell Dinosaur BBQ without Dino.

One of the OG founding partners from 1984–1988, Dino was larger than life, big-hearted, and an important part of building Dinosaur Bar-B-Que into what it is today.

As Security Manager at our original Syracuse location, he was our brother, our protector, and our friend. He looked out for our staff and guests, and if you spent any time at the Syracuse Dino, you knew exactly where to find him, sitting at his corner of the bar.

Dino loved his friends, his bikes, his cars, his guns, the ladies, and meat. Most importantly, he loved Dinosaur BBQ and proudly organized yearly rides to hit every Dinosaur location in a single day.

We're asking our Dino family, the biker community, and anyone who knew him to help us celebrate him. If you worked with Dino, rode alongside him, shared a seat with him at the bar, or have a photo or story to share, please leave it in the comments or send it to us directly.

Services will be held Tuesday, August 25 at 11:00 AM at the Veterans Cemetery in Syracuse.

Thanks for the memories, Dino, and for always looking out for us.

🦃 Turkey Deluxe — $275
Serves 8–12 with pit-roasted turkey, homemade gravy, Cooter’s Mama’s Cornbread Stuffing, whipped sweet potatoes and two homemade pies.
🦃 Half Turkey Deluxe — $150
Serves 3–5 with all the fixin’s and one homemade pie.
🦃 Flying Solo — $180
Pit-roasted turkey and homemade gravy.

We’re heartbroken to share the passing of longtime Syracuse regular and friend, Richard “Dickie” Shanahan.

For decades, Dickie was part of the fabric of Dino. If you spent any time at the Syracuse bar, chances are you knew him and probably have a story or two.

Funny as hell and loved by so many, Dickie was truly one of a kind. He even had his own cocktail button in our computer system: Ron Rico & splash of Coke. A distinction we’re pretty sure no other Dino regular can claim.

And then there was Dickie’s car. For years, it was a fixture parked right out front. It even made its way onto one of our Christmas cards one year and, without anyone planning it, into countless photos taken of Dino over the years.

He’d sit at the end of the bar, ready to give you a nickname, make you laugh, or as Dickie would say, “rap deep with ya.”

Dickie wasn’t just a regular. He was family, and Dino won’t be quite the same without him.

Tonight, August 27, from 5–9 PM Upstairs at Dinosaur Bar-B-Que Syracuse, we’ll gather with the friends and staff who knew and loved him to celebrate his life.

If you knew him, come raise a glass and share a story. ❤️

Dino will be laid to rest with Military Honors at the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 4069 Howlett Hill Road, Syracuse, NY, on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at 11:00 AM.

A celebration of Dean’s life will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM at the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que in Syracuse, NY
