Introducing the 2024 NorCal Football Guys MVP Finalists!!
The race for the 2024 NorCal Football Guys MVP awards is heating up, with top talent from all five CIF Northern Section divisions competing for both offensive and defensive MVP honors. Each division has standout players who have delivered incredible performances throughout the season, and fans have until November 22 to cast their votes. Here’s a look at some of the key finalists across the divisions:
Division 2
Offensive Finalist: Enterprise QB JJ Johnson has put up a spectacular season, scoring 31 total touchdowns and earning a spot at Southern Utah next year. He’s been a dual-threat nightmare for defenses, showing poise and athleticism that will be tough for voters to ignore.
Defensive Finalist: Pleasant Valley DE Gavin Garretson, committed to Arkansas, has anchored PV’s defense with relentless pressure off the edge, showcasing the size and power that make him a next-level talent.
Red Bluff’s Trio: QB Kayden Leaf, RB Zach Shaver, and SS Jaret Bridwell are all MVP finalists, highlighting the Spartans’ balanced, competitive roster. Leaf and Shaver have powered Red Bluff’s offense with consistency, while Bridwell has been a defensive rock at strong safety.
Division 3
Division 3 showcases an array of talented running backs and dual-threat QBs. Leading the way are Lassen’s Dathen Moore and Dowan Stephens, both capable of breaking open games with big plays on the ground.
Dual-Threat QBs: Orland’s Luke Schager and Gridley’s Gus Stogsdill have both excelled as offensive playmakers with their ability to pass and run. On defense, standout North Athletic League players like U-Prep’s Devin Huegel, West Valley’s Dalton Kelley and Lassen’s Tysen Conoboy are tough competitors who can swing the outcome of any game.
Division 4
Undefeated Winters has multiple MVP contenders, including QB Lane Brown, WR Sebastian Rodriguez, and linebackers Julian Herrera and Gio Jimenez. Brown has been a leader and playmaker at quarterback, while Rodriguez has been a favorite target, adding scoring depth.
Dual-Role Finalist: Hamilton QB/S Kayden Strong leads the section in scoring and has proven himself as a top threat on both offense and defense. His all-around impact makes him a strong contender for MVP honors on both sides of the ball.
Division 5
In Division 5, running backs take center stage, led by Biggs’ Davis Long and Maxwell’s Erik New, who have both shown endurance and explosive playmaking abilities on the ground.
Defensive Standouts: Defensive line talent is abundant, with Etna’s Kyle Fowle, Modoc’s Adin Benson, and Darren Goodman of Redding Christian making their cases for MVP with fierce performances up front.
Division 6 (8-Man)
The 8-man Division 6 race is particularly exciting, with Hayfork QB Levi Cavalli leading as a dual MVP candidate after an electric season featuring over 30 offensive touchdowns and 10 interceptions on defense. However, Tulelake’s Xavier Silva is right there with him in the running for both awards. Silva, a dynamic QB/LB, has been a force on both sides of the ball, showcasing a gritty, two-way playstyle that has helped Tulelake compete at a high level all season.
With both Cavalli and Silva vying for offensive and defensive MVPs, Division 6 promises a tight race that will come down to the final fan votes. Fans can weigh in on all these candidates through November 22, with winners announced via social media and the NorCal Football Guys Podcast.
