Hello everyone,
Thanks for your patience and understanding during this time. It is with a heavy heart that we deliver the news today that Wah Yuen is permanently closing. We have had many setbacks recently, and Bobby has decided that it is time he retire. He will be 75 years young in March!
Thank you for all of your support over the years. Bobby has been seeing some of you since opening in 1978! This restaurant provided for our family, all 5 children, and allowed Bobby to help many other family members along the way. The Sunbury community is truly beautiful, and we are so grateful to everyone who made Wah Yuen a huge success. Bobby loved having this restaurant, and he was very fond of his customers. Ming (Bobby’s brother that you would see in the back) helped cook, prep, and clean for many years. Irene also loved this community. We miss her dearly. Susie, Judy, Frieda, Bobby’s children, Daphne, Wendy, Lisa, and anyone else who helped Bobby - THANK YOU!
We haven’t advertised at all through the years - our success and patronage was through word of mouth, the best marketing! So many have told us how this is their favorite Chinese food, even many who have traveled often say that we are the best in the country! That is what we have been told, anyway. Thank you for all of your kind words over the years, they meant so much.
Thank you for transitioning to carry-out and keeping the restaurant busy after Covid. Bobby had hoped to sell this business and keep Wah Yuen open, with him being in a manager/owner type role, but it just wasn’t in the cards.
Thank you to everyone who said an hour wait (or longer) was fine - we did get super busy sometimes! Remember when we first opened back up following Covid in late 2021 and some people waited for 3 hours because everyone ordered at the exact same time and all of the orders were backed up? Online ordering was worth a shot but definitely short lived. Wah Yuen has generally always been a staff of three, so we have our limitations!

His children are thinking about throwing a retirement party where the community can pop in and say hello, but we are not sure how this would work yet. If this happens, we will share updates here.
We are in such gratitude that you all kept Wah Yuen a success for 46 YEARS.
