UPDATE 8.9.2024 @ 6:27 am:
Monument Pipeline is removing equipment near Elkins Road and the Brazos River. Our fire department detected Mercaptan. There is no natural gas leak and no danger or health concern.
The city was not notified in advance by the company. We responded to a few reports of a gas smell about a week ago, located the source, verified the company is removing out of service tanks with a residual amount of Mercaptan, determined there was no public risk and have been monitoring since. Yesterday was first instance of widespread odor complaints, so we issued the public notice.

We are aware of widespread reports of a gas odor in your area. The odor is the result of a company’s ongoing work to replace equipment. Our Fire-EMS Department is monitoring air quality and has determined there is no health risk or danger to the community; however, the odor is expected to linger until the work is complete by this weekend. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.
