Patricia Bays Haroski registered "National Boss' Day" with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in 1958. She was working as a secretary for State Farm Insurance Company in Deerfield, Illinois, at the time and chose October 16, which was her father's birthday. She was working for her father at the time. The purpose of designating a special day in the workplace is to show the appreciation for her bosses she thought they deserved. This was also a strategy to attempt to improve intra-office relationships between managers and their employees. Haroski believed that young employees sometimes did not understand the hard work and dedication that their supervisors put into their work and the challenges they faced.Four years later, in 1962, Illinois Governor Otto Kerner‎ backed Haroski's registration and officially proclaimed the day.

Every time I come in at 8am (we do not open until 10:) to meet a customer who needs to pick up a cake before work, I think of the last line of our Mission Statement..."The Teacake Factory is a small family owned, boutique bakery specializing in teacakes, cupcakes, pies and dessert cakes as well as custom designer and wedding cakes. We are looking for a part time baker and can offer extremely flexible hours with a pay range reflecting experience.

Manager's Log - Teacake March 3rd...

We are having lots of birthday parties at the Teacake Factory these days. Last week Carson celebrated his 12th birthday with us. 10 little boys started the festivities next door at the Escape Room and then came to us for cake and presents. Carson had very specific ideas for his cake, it needed to look like his invitation and he wanted a big black key made out of fondant. We were happy to make him happy! (He is such a grown up 12 year old it made me think of a quote by Abraham Lincoln, "The way for a young man to rise is to improve himself in every way he can, never suspecting that there's someone wanting to stop him")

Career Day at Local Scool

Today we were part of Career Day at Quail Valley Middle School. Four hundred 8th graders dressed in Career Day Business Attire stopped by our table to try out cake decorating. School allowed only those dressed for Career Day into the fair, if not they had to sit out in cafeteria. We were very impressed. We heard lots of 'yes ma'am' and 'ladies first' and 'thank you very much'. Again, very impressed.
We had as much fun as the kids and our table was rumored to be the most popular. The second most popular table was that of a veterinarian who brought a live snake. (That we beat out a live snakes speaks volumes!).
