Alumni Company

Alumni Company A summer touring company of young professionals, focusing on Shakespeare and ensemble, collaborative theater-making. Keep working. Don’t give up. Create.

"What's Past Is Prologue"

Summer 2014 marked the beginning of Shakespeare Academy @ Stratford, a unique theater training program for college students in Stratford, CT. Fifteen young artists from around the country gathered here to create, collaborate, study, and perform together—reviving theater training on the grounds of Stratford's American Shakespeare Festival Theater for the first time in dec

ades. Our past three seasons were a profound success, and we return in the summer 2017 with a fourth ensemble of students from around the world, and the 2017 Alumni Company. Four alums of last year's ensemble will create their own 4-person production of THE TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA in residence in Stratford, then tour it around the Northeast US. We're raising funds to support their efforts. The Alumni Company: Our Vision

The Alumni Company is a bridge: an opportunity for former students from our previous summers to return to Stratford together to develop their skills as professional theater artists. We are wholly dedicated to the spirit of working as an ensemble, to caring for the artistic families we create each summer, and to growing the larger SA@S family year after year as the program grows. The four members of our Alumni Company are all from the 2016 Company. They are: Kaitlyn Fowler of Baltimore, MD, Steven Miles of Kansas City, Missouri, Chandler Vance of Louisville, KY, and Bridget Wagar of Norwalk, CT. Ultimately, we hope to develop confidence and resourcefulness in our alums through their work as the Alumni Company, as they prepare for their professional lives as theater-makers. This summer, they will learn to produce and perform theater on their own, to understand that they can always keep moving forward, creating, that the key to success in theater is perseverance. Thank you Carol and Kimon for your donation! Below is your original sonnet written by Ellis Sargeant :

Oh great begetters of my family tree
We thank you for your generous contribution
That covered costs of great necessity
That follow in sweet rhyming elocution.

The gift you gave did go towards Tupperware
To keep our leftovers both safe and sound
All forty different kinds could not be spared
To shift food smaller as we scarfed it down.

Your love was key to a far graver issue
To keep us sane in misery and woe
It purchased for us large supplies of tissue
As Phillies losses made us noses blow

My parents, dear to me, father and mama
We're grateful that your gift prevents our trauma.

Thank you Michael P. Citrini for donating to our campaign! Here is your own original sonnet:

When cruising in my top-notch Subaru
And pondering the meaning of my life,
My thoughts turn towards a natural place’s view;
Away goes all my turmoil and strife.

At river-bearing orcas breathing fire,
I point my camera there to catch the picture,
And seeing my holy spirit swim right there
I know my god - the sacred one in scripture.

At such a point I turn my thoughts on thee,
Sweet Panda, canine bosom buddy mine,
And all at once my mind begins to free
When I allow my thoughts to you enshrine

No man’s an island, so they say - it’s true
For Michael’s island will be bridged by you.

Hi Kelly Letourneau! Thank you for donating to our campaign! Enjoy your sonnet:

They called me glutton when I brownies made
But no such glutton visited to shower
They bade me that my wrath be all charade
But when she came, she was too brave to cower
They begged my envious nature to abate
While she eschewed all envy for support
They found my sloth too hard to tolerate
While she could carry dressers although short
They told me I was prideful to a fault
And lust and greed would follow close behind
And yet she took it with a grain of salt
And taught me by example to be kind
My sins are all absolved when she is here
So, Kelly, let us take you out for beer
