Well, here are a few signs that can help you figure out if it’s going to be full of sweetness and have that crunch we all remember from when we were kids.
1. Yellow Field Spot – Look for a nice creamy yellow spot. That means it had time to sit on the ground and fully ripen.
2. Sugar Scars – Those little brown webbed lines… That’s from bee pollination, so you know it must be sweet if a bee is eyeing it!
3. Blossom End Scar – A small, tight circle on the bottom usually means it grew nice and slow and had time to fully mature.
4. The Stem or The “Umbilical Cord” – If the stem is brown and dried up, that’s what you want to see. It means it ripened on the vine before it was picked.
5. Know your source – Try to buy local whenever you can. Fresh, locally grown fruit just hits so hard! Trust me, the flavor is incomparable 🙌🏽
