It has been a tough few weeks since our last competition but the Broomstick BBQ family has been amazed again by the many volunteers of Eureka Volunteer Fire Department. Dad was able to come home. I can remember as a child that we always had to stop at the firehall the evenings that our family was together out so he could make sure the fire trucks were safe and sleeping well. So, on his trip home the volunteers surprised him with a solute and pulled all the engines out for him to see them. The Amberman family appreciates and thanks you all! This will always be my fondest memory of those times.

It was a long start to the weekend and I had a plan to put this brisket on my “cheater grill” and unfortunately while cooking ribs it decided to create a larger fire then I wanted. So, I’m going back to my first smoker the Big Green Egg aka Betty Lou.

It feels like it has been some time since our last cook, so i pulled out this Highview Farms brisket we bought a few months ago. Debating what to cook it on.

Our last competition of the season has come to an end. Today was another mix with a 16th place in chicken, 8th in dessert and 3rd with our cocktail submission (earning another trophy and check). We loved seeing so many familiar faces who came out to support us! A HUGE shout out to Billy and Michele who always show up and help us all weekend! Congratulations to all the winners!

Today was a mix for us, coming in 6th in Turkey and 5th on Mayor's Choice Appetizer. We tried some new things with chicken and ribs that didn't pan out, but that is what this hobby is all about! Tomorrow, we try again with chicken and ribs, going back to our original recipe. We will also have an entry in the dessert and cocktail categories.

Side note, today reminded us of why we participate in these contests - the people you meet. Robert, who is freshly 5 years old, was quite the young man and such a pleasure to chat with (as were his parents). So, this picture is for you, Robert! We will be sure to display it proudly!
