Maybe more true today than it was two years ago when we initially posted this.
A better America starts with kindness.

Like everyone, I remember exactly where I was on 9/11/01 when our country was attacked (high school English class). They’d turned on the classroom tv after the first plane hit, and we watch the second plane crash live. I remember the confusion, anger and sadness. I remember watching the live broadcast when people started jumping out the windows of the top floors, knowing there was no way out. I went to a prayer meeting that night, and like everyone else, I remember the America of 9/12/01, where it didn’t matter what side of the political line you stood on; everyone was just American.

I understand politics were less polarizing then, but we choose to allow that to come between our families, friendships and relationships. I see many people say they miss the America of 9/12 while actively posting content meant only to divide (the commentary from last night’s debate being a perfect example).

As we move past another 9/11 and into what is already an ugly election season, please remember to be kind. Remember we don’t have to agree to show respect to each other, and politics are not the end all be all regarding relationships and life.

Lastly, remember that unless you’re leaving a hefty tip (like, really big), your server/bartender doesn’t need to hear your political rants while they’re at work and obligated to smile and bite their tongue 😊🇺🇸
