At 6pm, our City Council will take public comment and determine the fate of The Latigo. You can attend online (link below) OR in-person - However you attend... Your voice and your opinion matter! Should we prove successful, we will head down to Cypress afterward to have some drinks and snacks!
Some important topics to mention during public comment:
IF the Downtown Master Plan, adopted since 2019 and re-affirmed by its inclusion into the Canvas plan in 2025, were codified — this project would not need a single variance.
IF the Community Canvas Plan, adopted unanimously by this Council in January 2026, were to be codified — this project would not need a single variance.
This proposed building will not be to be ONE INCH taller than the existing Waterside Village Condominiums, located immediately next door. Not an inch.
This project CREATES parking. We are ADDING five public parking to the downtown inventory - not asking for parking variances like every other major development on Yampa Street has obtained for the last 20 years.
We are effectively being required to ask for variances for things like:
- NOT putting windows in a brick wall that is being built directly next to/against another brick wall (*with no windows in it either)
- How many windows we have — (Code says we don't have enough)
- Covering our parking garage from view of the park and sidewalk
- What type of windows/screening we use to cover parking garage from view of the park and sidewalk
- Not dividing our "non-conforming lot" width into 25’ increments because 115' doesn’t divide evenly...
We will be creating over 40 jobs with this project - and will generate hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxes and mill levies per year - adding to economic vitality of Steamboat Springs in a major way.
