Every single morning, the alarm goes off at 4:45a. I get up, shower, get dressed and head to the store to grab the few items that we need to start our day before any food delivery happens.

After I settle into my office to start on the days paperwork - a part of every small business owner's life! - our baristas make me a mocha latte.

One every morning to get my day started and it is amazing!! The feel of the cup in my hands and the taste of the delicious Stringbean Coffee Co. mixed with our chocolate syrup is how I kick-start my day!

It's not the caffeine - honestly - it is the simple experience of the amazing coffee in that perfect cup!

Now....back to my paperwork!

Six years ago yesterday, we opened the doors to La Belle Vie with a dream.

We wanted to create more than just a café. We wanted a place where families would make memories, where friends would gather, and where people would sit across the table from one another and build relationships.

Six years later, that is exactly what we get to see every single day.
Bible study groups gather around our tables. Men’s workout groups stop in for coffee. Ladies play cards, knit and catch up on life. Business meetings happen throughout the day. Friends reconnect. Families celebrate. And sometimes people simply find a quiet corner and enjoy a cup of coffee.

We LOVE being part of the Frenchtown experience, and we look forward to being here for many, many years to come.

To our faithful guests who have been with us since the very beginning - THANK YOU. And to those of you who just discovered us last week - THANK YOU, too. You are all part of the La Belle Vie story.

To the dozens of employees who have shared a part of their lives and have left their fingerprints on our business, we also thank you. From Andy, Jeremiah, Ann and Cami to the crew in place today – we could not have done any of this without you!

We also want to thank our family and friends who have supported us through thick and thin. The café has pretty much been our life for the past six years, and owning a small business definitely isn’t all glamorous.

We’ve missed baseball games and soccer games with our grandsons. We’ve missed events because a chef decided not to show up for work. We’ve missed retirement parties because we were washing dishes. There have been early mornings, late nights, tough decisions and more than a few moments when Melissa and I have cried on each other’s shoulder.

Those are some of the sacrifices that come with opening a small business and keeping the doors open day after day.

But there is also this…
At the end of the night, when the lights are turned off and Melissa and I walk through the café when no one else is around, we still look at what we have created together with a tremendous sense of satisfaction.

Six years.

Thousands of guests. Countless conversations. Friendships formed. Memories made. And a little café in Frenchtown that became so much more than we ever imagined when we first opened those doors.

Thank you for believing in us, supporting us and being part of our journey.

Here’s to the next six years — TOGETHER!

Today, Pedal the Cause kicked off from The Family Arena with nearly 4,000 cyclists hitting the road to raise funds for cancer research - all with one incredible goal: helping create a World Without Cancer.

As a five-time cancer survivor myself, this event is especially close to my heart.

I also know today’s event created some inconvenience. Much of South Main Street and North Second Street was closed for a good portion of the day, impacting residents, businesses and visitors throughout the area.

So, a sincere THANK YOU to those who parked an extra block away to visit us at the café, adjusted family plans, took a different route or simply showed a little extra patience as thousands of riders made their way through our community.

It matters.

100% of the money raised through Pedal the Cause goes directly toward funding innovative cancer research. That means every rider, every sponsor, every volunteer and every person who was inconvenienced today played a small part in something much bigger.

To everyone who rode, volunteered, sponsored a cyclist or cheered them on - THANK YOU!

For those of us whose lives have been touched by cancer, the hope of a World Without Cancer is very personal.

It might take you a little longer to get to the cafe over the next couple of weeks, but it is worth it!

A quick update on N. Second Street. The road was closed yesterday, September 1, and crews immediately began excavation and installation of the new water main. The work is very deep in this area, but crews are making excellent progress despite the extreme heat and heat advisories this week.

As they excavate, crews continue to uncover portions of the old brick streets that were paved over many years ago. It is a good reminder of the history beneath this area, and both the Second Street and Main Street projects will incorporate brick pavers, reused railroad rail and other elements intended to highlight that history rather than cover it back up.

As we committed to Frenchtown residents, we will only close Second Street when the work directly requires it. This is one of those times. The excavation and water main installation are occurring within the roadway itself, making the closure unavoidable and making it easy to see why the street needs to be closed while this work is underway. Crews remain on schedule to complete this stage of work by September 15.
