We are closed 1 day a year. This is it. Everyone always asks, 'Why are you closed for the 4th of July?'. Weeellllll, because the last 4th we were open, I worked open to close by myself. It was a Friday, and our sales for the entire day ...$35.75. My kids were little then. I told Bobby the next day, I will never work the 4th again. I just missed a fun holiday and time with my kids so we could lose money. The next year, I decided to have a grill out at my house. Bobby showed up with a truck full of fireworks!!! So became the tradition of us closing on the 4th. I kept up the grilling out and inviting the whole bar to my home for over a decade. Everyone was asked to bring fireworks and some kind of food. We put everything together in a pile and then there was enough for everyone. Unfortunately, it got to where people just showed up empty handed. So I had to stop it, because i am by no means rich!!! I would love to start that back up again, maybe next year, if everyone contributes like it started out being. That being said, this an outside holiday, and fireworks were banned in Springfield city limits years ago because of entitled, lawless idiots. I hope everyone enjoys their 4th of July celebrations and takes a moment to truly appreciate the meaning, history, sacrifice, and blessings behind the honor of being an American.
