The first question people ask when they see our name and logo is “who is Chuck?”

When I decided to open a coffee shop, I wasn’t sure what to name it or what kind of vibe I wanted to create. I knew I wanted something different from the typical coffee pun, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it.

Then one night, the answer came to me while I was thinking about my soul dog, Charlie-or “Charlos,” as he became known later in life.

I adopted Charlie when I was 17 and living in my first apartment. He passed away just a week before my 30th birthday. During those years, he moved with me more than 15 times. There was even a point someone suggested I foster him until I could afford a new place, but I couldn’t imagine life without him, so I found a way to make it work.

Charlie was the longest relationship I ever had. When I was too broke to buy food for myself, I still found a way to feed him. He was there through every chapter of my young adult life-through meeting and marrying my husband, surviving a house fire, fostering 50 dogs and all the ups and downs that come with growing up and building a life.

His name carried even more meaning because my grandpa used to call both my mom and me “Charlie”-or “Little Charlie” in my case.

When the name Lucky Chuck came to me, I knew I wanted a logo that honored Charlie without relying on the usual dog imagery like paw prints. I found an incredible graphic designer who brought my vision to life, capturing even the shape of his ears and the spirit that made him so special.

Now, I love knowing that Charlie’s spirit lives on throughout Spokane. What started as a way to honor the dog who stood by me through some of the most important years of my life has become something much bigger. A little piece of him is woven into everything Lucky Chuck represents, and it means the world to share his story with my community.

What a surreal experience to be officially open for business 🖤🤟

My hairstylist .x.haley, my realtor , my neighbors, 4 seasons customers, friends I haven’t seen in YEARS? You all showed up dude. On the drive home I kept turning to Michael and saying wow, what a strange feeling to know all those people showed up for ME. I am forever grateful to be surrounded by such good humans, you will never understand what this day meant to me.
