Today made so many visceral connections for me. I had so many things to make, including special order pies. I had some extra crust, so I hand fashioned some small jam tarts just for us (because my special jam tarts tins are at home).
I grew up having jam tarts, my Mom (Mum) was British as was my Nan.
I was leaving work and as I opened the back door, ran into a man who was drinking remnants of plant milk out of containers in our recycle bin. He looked embarrassed and then worried. Hey Sir, could you use a quart of milk? Oh yes please. Ran back in, grabbed a freshie and handed it off.
I had my daughter take this picture earlier in the day because I was going to post about extra things you can do with leftover crust.
Turns out, my Mom (who was the most generous, kindest mom and human ever) was really present today.
She never missed a chance to give to people. Picking families up at bus stops if the weather was poor, straight up buying car seats for infants if she saw parents trying to decide what to purchase because they were on a strict budget, buying every kids size winter coat available at her favorite chain at the end of the season so she could donate to her favorite charities.

Most days I feel like I’m tap dancing as fast as I can and I still can’t catch up. Today I had a few extra minutes so I made a video for you, showing you how to make the very popular Potato Croquettes with Herb Mayo. Got everything set up, chopped, laid out, etc. Rigged my phone up on top of a stockpot, tied to a gallon jug of vinegar with some fancy twine. I envisioned such great things, despite my lack of polish. I made two videos (one after the croquettes were partially cooked) so that my tech savvy daughter could edit them together for my masterpiece. Nailed it. 🤣🤣🤣 Second video in the comments. 🤦♀️ 🤣🤷♀️
