Update: After a 13 hour open heart surgery I’m alive. Everyone at Sacred Heart has been amazing and saved my life. It’s going to take a few months to fully recover and I won’t be able to be at the stand. I’m not sure what the future of Carls Coffee will be but I can’t thank you guys enough for the support and kind words. I’m lucky to be here and lucky to have the best customers/friends I could ever ask for.

Hey everyone, I’m having some heart complications and will need another surgery. It’s still up in the air and I’m not exactly sure what is going to happen and how long the recovery will be. The stand will be closed until I’m able to return, I will post an update as soon as I know.

Carl passed away last night. I wish I had something profound to say but I'm just really sad. He was my best friend. He jumped in my hospital bed without any question. He tried to protect me from every animal when we hiked. I got him at a difficult time in my life and he made every day better. I will never get over this and never not miss him, but he would want me to push on. It will be hard to go to Carl's Coffee every day, but I'm glad his likeness and spirit will always be represented. He lived a good life and we got to do and see a lot. Hug your animals and give them a kiss for Carl, it's what he would want. See you on the other side buddy, Shirley and I will hold it down so you can rest easy ❤️

I want to apologize for the inconsistent hours over the last week, Carl has been sick and needed emergency surgery. He is going in for another operation today as the first one didn't help. He is in critical condition now but in good hands at the emergency vet clinic. His recovery is going to be tough and will require constant attention and care. I will be posting my schedule as the situation unfolds. Thanks in advance for the understanding, I will do my absolute best to maintain normal hours!

We had another break in last night, our 3rd so far. They didn't get much but it's an awful feeling every time. We want to send a MASSIVE thank you to everyone who supported us today. We can't say thank you enough, your generosity and kind words have made the whole thing so much easier. We will resume regular hours moving forward, 8-4 on the weekends and 6-6 on weekdays.

Today is Carl's 5th birthday. He's been there for so many different parts of my life already. Different jobs, crazy schedules, covid, recovering from surgery, and no matter what he's always waiting by the door and excited when I get home. Whether it's a lazy day, a hike, a trip to the river, he's always with me and makes every day better. He's been the best dog I could ever hope for and a sweet and patient big brother to a crazy little blue heeler. Happy birthday big guy, love you more than anything ❤️

Meet Penny, the inspiration for the Pecan Penny on our fall menu. She was a chihuahua and is pictured above with her best friend secret. She always slept between someone's legs and did a great impression of Wallace Shawn. She is missed and we're glad we get to show her off one more time.

Meet Carl (again), the inspiration behind the Canadian Carl on our fall menu. Carl will be 5 at the end of this month, he's a big old mixed breed baby boy. He loves to dig holes in the yard and take naps in them. He is protective of his family but so sweet once he knows you. He is often scared of his own shadow despite his size and scary bark. He is always up for a hike but chooses to blow bubbles in the river instead of swim. I love him more than anything and am very proud that he's my dog.

Meet Gator, the inspiration for the Gingerbread Gator on our fall menu. He was a mini pinscher who passed at the age of 13. He loved playing fetch despite not being the best at it. He was chubby and full and loved is greatly missed. RIP Gator.

Meet Bodhi, the inspiration for the Big Bodhi on our fall menu. He is a 4 1/2 month old boxer and pitbull mix. He loves fetch and playing with kids and other dogs and his favorite toy is his skunk. He recently tackled potty training and is going to the biggest smartest sweetest boy ever.

Meet Lois, the inspiration for the Little Lois on our fall menu. She is a 14 year old Mini Dachshund who doesn't have a ton of teeth left and is mostly blind but she's as sweet and loving as ever. In her old age she enjoys lounging but doesn't hesitate to greet guests. She has been in the family since she was a puppy and has had a life filled with treats and playing and lots of naps.
