Around here, the weekend starts on Thursday. 🍸 🎶

Start with a hearty lunch at the Muddy Creek Cafe, then circle back at 5pm and pull up a stool at the bar. El or Whitney will be on hand with cocktails, cold b**r, w**e, and a few bar snacks to get the weekend rolling.

Friday Night Live takes over the Muddy Creek Music Hall Friday evening, featuring some of the top players from Elkin. No cover — just please TIP the band! And come hungry… we hear there's a steak dinner special in the works. 🥩🎶

Then we ease things down a notch with acoustic music on the Cafe Stage Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon.

Good Eats. Cold Drinks. Live Music.
That sounds like a pretty fine weekend in Sparta to us.

A rainy Wednesday in Sparta calls for a good lunch. ☔️

Whether you’re out running errands, catching up with a friend, or just looking for an excuse to get out of the rain, we’ve got you covered!

Sometimes it’s lunch with the girls or a bite to eat at the bar.

Maybe it’s dinner when the family is in town, or the place a crew of hikers lands for burgers and b**r.

And all the while, this seemingly unassuming little cafe in Sparta occasionally plays host to some pretty extraordinary music.

Last night, Pierre Bensusan took the stage at the Muddy Creek Music Hall, playing to a room filled with locals and visitors—many of whom had never been to Sparta before.

And as we chatted with folks before the show, we kept hearing the same thing: “I can’t believe Pierre Bensusan is playing in Sparta!” We kinda love that.

So thank you for supporting live music in a small town. For buying tickets to touring artists. For taking a chance on a musician you might not know, or driving to a venue you’ve never visited before.
For showing up, filling the room, and helping us keep nights like this happening right here in Sparta.

We certainly love being a part of it.

Mid-September in Sparta. A little warm, maybe a passing shower, and plenty happening around town!

The Heritage Festival rolls into Main Street on Saturday, the Alleghany County Fair is going strong all weekend, and here at the Muddy Creek Cafe, we’ve got a smiling crew ready to feed you.

Join us for a fabulous lunch or supper. Dig into our house-smoked Pork BBQ, come Friday evening for Danish Baby Back Ribs, and save a little room for a slice of Raspberry Donut Cheesecake. Because obviously. 🍰

And Friday night? The Hoplight Hooligans take over the Muddy Creek Music Hall for Friday Night Live! 🎸

Good food. Live music. County fairs and Main Street festivals. A little mountain weather thrown in for good measure.

Sounds like a perfect September in Sparta to us. ❤️

This big bowl of goodness has a long history with Muddy Creek Cafe.

Back in the day, when we first started experimenting with pimento cheese recipes, we wanted something a little bolder — something that stood apart from the supermarket stuff.

So, of course, we started with sharp cheddar and Duke’s Mayo. Added Italian roasted red peppers, fresh scallions, and topped it all off with a big dash of Texas Pete. And there it was: Muddy Creek Pimento Cheese.

Over the years, this little signature recipe has inspired Pimento Cheese Throwdowns, a Pimento Cheese 5K Run, and attended more parties than we can possibly count.

Not bad for a bowl of cheese. 😎
