Moore Reflections
It’s Better to Be a Servant Because Humility Opens Doors Pride Never Can
Let me ask you a question that I hope lingers in your spirit today:
Are you chasing the spotlight… or are you chasing significance?
I’ve lived long enough to discover that some of the greatest blessings in life don’t come from being the loudest person in the room. They come from being the one who quietly shows up, works with excellence, serves with integrity, and gives God the glory.
The world tells us to promote ourselves, protect our image, and make sure everyone knows our name. But God often works in the opposite direction. He has a way of taking the humble, the faithful, and the willing servant and placing them exactly where they need to be at exactly the right time.
I’ve learned that humility isn’t weakness—it’s strength under God’s control.
There have been seasons in my own life when I’ve experienced heartbreaking loss, unexpected setbacks, and doors that seemed permanently closed. Yet even through grief, disappointment, and unanswered questions, I’ve watched God make a way where there appeared to be no way. Looking back, I can honestly say that many of the opportunities He placed before me weren’t come by demanding attention—they came by remaining faithful, staying teachable, and continuing to serve.
Jesus Himself gave us the perfect example. He didn’t come seeking applause or earthly status. He came to serve.
“Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant.”
— Matthew 20:26
Think about that for a moment. Heaven’s definition of greatness is completely different from the world’s. God isn’t impressed by titles nearly as much as He is by character. He isn’t looking for people who simply want influence; He’s looking for people He can trust with influence.
And Scripture reminds us:
“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
— James 4:6
That verse alone should make every one of us pause.
So before you fight to be first, ask yourself if God is calling you to serve first.
Before you insist on recognition, ask whether your reward is already being prepared in places you cannot yet see.
Before you become frustrated because someone else received the promotion, remember that what God has for you doesn’t require you to push people out of the way. His favor has a way of finding those who faithfully serve.
Today, I challenge all of us—including myself—to choose humility over ego, compassion over competition, and service over self-promotion.
Because I truly believe this:
The door that humility opens can never be forced open by pride.
And when God opens a door, no person can shut it.
Reflection Question
Who have you served lately without expecting anything in return, and what might God be trying to teach you through that act of humility?
As always, I encourage you to keep your faith bigger than your fears, your purpose bigger than your position, and your heart anchored in service. The world may celebrate status, but God celebrates servants.
And as I close this week’s reflection, I want you to know that I will continue to speak God’s blessings of health, strength, favor, peace, wealth, and prosperity over you and your family. May you walk in humility, live with purpose, and experience doors that only God can open.
Until next time, may the Lord continue to keep us all “Safe in His Arms.”
