I think of Mr. and Mrs. Russell often. What a joy it was to have gotten to know them and work for them. I’ve missed having an amazing seafood place here in town. There just isn’t any place like it in Moore County. From the signature seafood dishes to the southern buffet, no one else has been able to come close to the atmosphere or variety of foods that were served at Russell’s.
While most businesses and restaurants moved to Pinehurst and Aberdeen years ago, Mr. Russell hung on to this location until his health declined to the point that he no longer could do so. If only he could see the growth that has once again retuned near the airport. He’d be beyond thrilled to see that Southern/Whispering Pines is back on the map for business again!
We all miss the Russells and Russell’s Seafood and Southern Buffet!!
Until we meet again in Heaven… I’ll continue to hold on to all the wonderful memories you gave us, Mr. and Mrs. Russell. You truly left a lasting impression on my life. I love you both! 🥰 😇

Absent from this life, and led into the arms of Jesus and her soulmate, Mrs. Mary Russell has gone to be with our wonderful Lord and Savior. She stood by Mr. Russell's side for a lifetime, and she loved him with all of her precious, little heart. Most of all, she loved Jesus! Mrs. Russell was a pint-sized ball of joy. Every time I saw her, she was smiling, and she had one of the most beautiful spirits I've ever known. There was a lot of sweetness packed into that tiny body, and she knew how to make one laugh. Although I will miss her dearly, I know she is much happier with Jesus. Mrs. Russell was widowed at a very young age, while her first born son, Harold, was small, and God knew she needed someone to tenderly love and care for her. He sent Mr. Russell to her shortly after, and they were a match made in heaven. They had two more bundles of love, Mike and Sherry. We ask that everyone please pray for this family. They were and still are tightly knit together with God's love. Life won't be the same without the two lovebirds who created this beautiful family bond, but they are celebrating with our sovereign and loving Savior. More information regarding Mrs. Russell's arrangements will follow.

Pleasant Hill Baptist Church is actually in the Southern Pines area, but the address is annexed as Carthage.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either First Health Hospice House or Sandhills Teen Challenge. Monetary donations to these organizations will enable them to continue the awesome work they do for those who need it most.

Once again, thank you so much for the outpouring of love that has been shown to the family, and we ask that you all pray for them in the coming days, weeks, and months.

May God bless and keep you all until He calls us to reunite with Larry in Heaven.

To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord! Mr. Larry Russell has fought the fight and kept the faith, and now he has received his reward as he entered the heavenly gates of his forever home last night. He has no more pain, no more suffering, and no more long days making sure that every piece of fish was cooked to his standard. I can see him teaching the disciples how to fry the best fish heaven has ever known!

He's the only man I've ever known who cared so much about his business that he worked 100+ hours a week into his 70s. He gave hope to people that were normally turned away from other jobs because of their backgrounds. He knew no stranger, and he loved people like Jesus would love them. He believed in second chances, and his ability to see beyond others' flaws allowed him to enable some of society's "rejected" citizens to gain a new start in life. He loved, and was loved by many. Somehow, in the midst of his long hours and hard work, he still managed to be there for his family, and his love for his family shines through his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Go rest high on that mountain, Mr. Russell!

With the highest respect and love,

Patsy Mabe
