Maude is Frances Granger, mother of your cook, Charlie Granger. She was born 25 years after the formation of the village of South Glens Falls. While working at Patrick's Vending, Frances received her nickname of Maude after the popular television character played by Bea Arthur. Frances's life was similar to the character Maude, so the name stuck. Frances married Rodger Granger on September 3, 1942

and had ten children, five girls and five boys. Charlie is the youngest of the ten. Her busy life revolved around the kitchen. If she wasn't cooking, she was sitting in the kitchen, enjoying a beer and playing five card stud with her friends and family. France's kitchen was a place where you could always get something good to eat or simply relax and visit and that's what we offer here. Each of the breakfast selections are named after the Granger children. Like each of the children, they're all different. Lunch suggestions are named for people Maude knew and would have liked to honor. All soups are homemade and all meats are cooked on premises. Remember, Maude's Kitchen is "Where Happiness is Homemade"

Looking back on our journey eleven years ago I would never have imagined that after long-standing success we would have developed friendships,created memories, and established a place where you could sit for hours and have it feel like your own kitchen.
Maude's has always been a place where you could enjoy coffee, a good meal, and make friends. The one thing that most resembles the real kitchen was that you never knew who you were going to see there. Maybe someone you hadn't seen for a few years, or maybe someone you hadn't seen in a lifetime. Now Maudes has had to make a decision. One that has taken some time to come too. But as of 2 o'clock today Maudes is closed.
This moment is bittersweet , The eleven year journey with everyone who has come in,is coming to an end, but our friendship will remain. The story is not over, just a new chapter.
We thank everyone who has supported us for years. If you have an outstanding gift certificate, Maudes will purchase it back. Maude would like everyone to know that she will now be able to rest. It has been a pleasure serving the community and putting a good face on the village of south glens falls whose help was greatly appreciated.
