We did it! Thank you for the amazing turnout at today’s cafe residency launch.

A friend at one point looked around at one point and said something that was music to my ears: everyone was doing something different, and yet everyone belonged. That’s the dream, right there.

Thank you to everyone who came out, to my partners in The “H Trifecta,” Bookish Merch halcyonbooksandmore and Hinterland Bookery (small business besties now, it’s official, and yes, we’re already scheming future collaborations), to Quad Coffee Lab for giving us such a wonderful home, and to my favorite young barista-in-training, who absolutely rocked it behind the counter today. 💪

You’ll find us at Quad every Saturday, 9am to 2pm. Come as you are, bring what you’re making, or come find something new to start. There’s always a spot for you in the nest. If you took pictures, please share (like this one, from the amazing Abi Ocobock ❤️. For now, I’m ready to collapse into a heap of happy exhaustion and recharge for next week!!!!!

Tomorrow a few friends and nest-builders are helping me test-run the cafe menu! That meant today was my first “prep day” test run in the space, and it was a delight to see things coming together. Fresh fruit, three types of cheese, deli ribbons, cashews, a sweet treat, and a marigold to finish, because every nest deserves something beautiful. This is just a sneak peek at what we’re working up for Saturday, along with cafe beverages, new inventory, and two fantastic bookish neighbors. Come hungry and be ready to nourish your body and spirit!

Magical yarn and books deserve magical hands to celebrate them! Jennifer used my hand-painted “Secret Garden” yarn to crochet a book sleeve and bookmarks for her favorite childhood book. Then, she took Halcyon’s book vase workshop and made the beauty you see in the last photo. She loved it so much, she’s doing the workshop again this Saturday!

In her words, “Rediscovering The Secret Garden as an adult has inspired so much creativity, from crocheting a book sleeve to creating a book vase. Add in the nostalgia of the Hinterland mobile bookery, and this Saturday will be the PERFECT day for book lovers! Come find a little childhood magic with me on July 11, with Hummingbird, Halcyon, and Hinterland together in one place.”

We couldn’t say it better. This Saturday is the H Trifecta! Three “H” local businesses, one great day, and the official launch of Hummingbird’s Saturday residency at Quad Coffee Lab.

🧶 9am-2pm: Hummingbird Sip & Stitch offers quality yarn and fiber arts supplies, charcuterie-style snack boxes, cafe drinks, and a welcoming atmosphere. Bring your work in progress, or just stop in to say hello!

I’m setting up things at the cafe I preparation for the July 11 launch event, but I haven’t forgotten about tonight’s popup gathering at BFF Bakery, 4-7pm! I’ll be bringing the first skeins from my summer ice dyeing and handpainted yarn, in peachy and lemony colors to celebrate the season! Come say hello!

BIG NEWS! For those who’ve missed our Saturday gatherings, I’m pleased to announce that Hummingbird is launching a Saturday residency at Quad Coffee Lab located in South Bend’s Ignition Park. Starting July 11, we’ll be there on Saturdays from 9am to 2pm. And we’re kicking things off BIG on July 11 with two other awesome South Bend small businesses, Bookish Merch and Hinterland Bookery !

Be sure to mark your calendar, and stay tuned for more on Halcyon’s book vase workshop. Books, crafts, sipping, and stitching — be still my heart!

We are thrilled for this collaboration and extend a huge thanks to Quad Coffee Lab for this opportunity to bring multiple small, local, maker-led businesses together. Our community grows even stronger when we show up for each other in these joyful, creative, welcoming spaces.

This little stitch scroll has become a new favorite mindfulness practice! Layering the fabric and embellishments slowly, with no rules other than to follow my intuition, is incredibly soothing. I’m so excited about it that I’ll soon be prototyping kits for you!

Come see me tonight at La Belle Vie (5-8pm) to see it in person - I might even have a few prototypes ready to try! Also drop by tomorrow (Thursday) from 4-7pm at BFF Bakery.
