At our Souderton Borough Council meeting tonight, we had the privilege of honoring Jesse's Barbecue & Local Market with a Key to the Borough for their continued commitment to Souderton.
When I walk into a crowded restaurant on a busy Saturday night in Souderton and I don’t know anyone in the room, that is actually a good thing! Because that means that people are coming into our town to spend their time and their money. Many of us remember an era not too long ago when that was certainly not the case here. Our current success is because of a few trailblazers that led the way. Jesse‘s Barbecue was an early believer in the revitalization of Souderton. And today if you read any ranking of the top barbecue restaurants in the entire state of Pennsylvania, Jesse’s is on the top of the list. They helped put Souderton on the map! And they’ve endured a lot to get here; A pandemic. A flood halfway up to their roof. And operating in a construction zone for the last decade. But they have persevered and shown their unwavering dedication to Souderton.
And their commitment doesn’t stop there. The true reason we are honoring Jesse, Laura, their entire family, and their business tonight is because they truly exemplify what it means to be a civicly engaged business in a small town. For the last five years, Jesse's has hosted a benefit concert for the Perseverance Volunteer Fire Company. They dedicate their own time, staff, and resources to help others. This is just one example where they have gone above and beyond to help build up this community. Their annual event not only supports the fire company financially, but promotes a sense of community and family fun that makes Souderton the Hallmark town that it is.
A commitment like this exemplifies what has made this community thrive generation after generation. Our businesses, nonprofits, and local government all work together for the betterment of Souderton. Jesse‘s Barbecue has been an example of that year after year. Not only as a benefit to the Fire Company, but to the grateful community as a whole.
Tonight we celebrated Jesse's Barbeque with members of Borough Council and members of the Perseverance Volunteer Fire Company. Jesse, Laura, and all, we're so lucky to have you in Souderton!
