Homegrown Bagels

Homegrown Bagels Baking fresh daily in Sonoma since 1978 Stuart sez "ask a local" It's a bit awkward to review ones own place, so I wont. My head Baker Mr. and Sami.

What I can do, is tell you some things about Homegrown and about me that are (to the best of my recollection) true.....

We have been baking bagels pretty much every day in Sonoma since 1978. Providing fresh bagels to the locals and a growing number of visitors and travelers. Antonio (Tony) Peña has been with me for over 40 years and has never missed a single day of work, ever! He and his crew, Ne

phew Pepe and along with Jose Luis are the best there are, and are truly committed to producing the best possible bagels every day. Carina and her sister Karla, along with her kids J.J. Carlos and Trini round out our Hole Gang. All of us dedicated to getting you the best possible combination of great food with great service. We were the first Bagel Bakery in Sonoma County, California, U.S.A / N.A, Earth and, I think the second Espresso Machine in town. A lot of things have changed since then but our bagels and commitment to always try our best has not. We take pride in our product and our service. Come in say hello & have a bagel and a shmear and a cupa. Stuart Teitelbaum

UPDATE! 1:15 PM Sunday
We are shutting the oven down for today. We sold out of Bagels for the day and it feels like the Pizza was a success too. I haven't read all the comments on line yet (I'm looking forward to that ) but the reaction in the bakery was very positive. I love this town and I love all you stalwart Homegrown Bagel fans.
Can you believe it? We're heading towards 48 years now.
Half a Century is just around the corner!
To everyone that came in and got some pizza yesterday and today and gave us your honest opinions...Thank You.
The crew was just great today (as always) The people that work here truly care and it shows.
I'll keep you posted on our progress and when we will actually start offering Pizza. Hopefully it won't be too long.
Thank you all again for your continued support and unfailing love over the years and decades.
Stuart & The Hole Gang.
See ya tomorrow

It's Sunday the 12th. Good morning friends and fans. Guess what? Yup, we are refining and sampling Homegrown PIZZA today again. C'mon in for a free slice, we just ask for your opinion. The oven is lit and we'er getting going. First pies should be out around 10:45 ish.
This is the next step on our glacially slow movement towards bringing back our (legendary) Pizza to Sonoma.
The plan (so far) is to offer Homegown Pizza one evening a week. Probably Fridays.
Right now we are thinking of doing one size and to go only. Ordering ahead is part of our vision and may get you a discount. We are working out the details now. I'm sure I've forgotten lots of things, but I remember a few things clearly. Primarily that I love pizza and enjoyed making and serving our pies to Sonoma.
So, c'mon in and grab a slice and tell us what you think.
See ya in the bakery.

We are selling out and it's Abuela's birthday too.
Surprise party planned. Don't tell..
So we will close at 12:30 unless we sell out earlier.
As always thank you all so much for your loyalty and love.
See y'all tomorrow.

Wowza! Well, we've had well over 300 likes and comments since I posted our informal Pizza survey a few days ago. I apologize for not answering each of you individually. But we've been trying to digest and assimilate all the comments and suggestions. If you've been following the Homegrown saga you've seen the responses have been overwhelmingly positive. So, first of all, THANK YOU! Knowing that so many of you fondly remember our Pizza is so gratifying. And, amazingly, many of the positive comments have come from a lot of you that haven't even had our Pizza yet, but you know and love our Bagels and trust that our Pizza will be of the same quality and high standards. I appreciate the faith you have in us. We will always make every effort to live up to your expectations.
Now we are working on the logistics and trying to figure out how best to proceed. What additional supplies and equipment we may need, how to configure the POS (point of sale) system to deal with ordering and scheduling and such. What day and what hours, etc. In the coming weeks we will be practicing and refining our pizza.
I will post here when we have a practice pie day and invite you to come in and try a slice and get your opinion and hopefully your approval.
The adventure continues.
Thank you Sonoma!

P.S. Didja see the article in the Press Democrat today?
" Where to get the best bagels in Sonoma county"
But, you all know the answer to that question already... right?

For the past many years since we stopped making pizza, someone asks every week, when are you bringing pizza back? I've been thinking a lot about doing pizza again. I do love a good pie. What do you think about us offering pizza one night a week? My question to you all is: What Night Do You Think Would Be Best?

We're also debating if we do it, should it be To Go only, or should we offer Eat In as well?

Assuming we do one night a week only, would you/could you order in advance (with a bit of a discount perhaps)? Because I want to set up a preorder system to make sure we can keep up with the anticipated demand.

Realizing that pizza is often a spontaneous option, could you plan on a certain day of the week being Bagel Shop Pizza Day?

What you think and say will help us decide what to do. You are the reason we do what we do. This is an informal poll but a first step in making a decision. Remember: This is not a promise of pizza next week! This is our guerrilla marketing/fishing expedition and survey.

"Thank you for your attention to this matter." 😉

Stuart and the Hole Gang

p.s. Your responses will obviously be appreciated and very public.

Friends
2025 is almost over. It’s been quite a year.
We will be closed on New Year’s Day but we will be doing a “late bake” Wednesday morning!
Yup, hot out of the oven.
Come in and make sure you have Homegrown Bagels for New Year’s Day.
And, Thank you to our loyal and steadfast bagel fans and friends for all the support and love you’ve given us these past 47 years. Keeping the tradition alive!

I truly believe that the Homegrown crew and family maybe the best service staff in Sonoma, maybe in the hole world! I hope that you appreciate them half as much as I do. After being here for over 47 years, I know and understand a good crew when I see it. Not only here, but in the real world as well. They are honest, hard working and actually care about providing the best food and service possible.

We don't try to do everything, we aim simply to be the best at what we do.
Our head baker Tony said something to me that sort of sums up the overall attitude of all of us at Homegrown Bagels. He said:
"We may make hundreds of bagels and sandwiches every day.
But the only one that matters is the one you get. So, every one has to be that one!"

With that in mind:
How many of The Hole Gang can you name, including the bakers who are not in the photo? Bring in your list of who we are and we'll give you one bagel for each name you get right.
Offer good until New Year's.

I've been playing the "Little Drummer Boy Game" ever since I heard about it. We welcome all players, and you can announce to the world right here when you "lose" (almost everyone loses). Just post on Homegrown's page that " I'm Out "!
If you'd like to announce (like I just did) that you are a player, you can do that right here too!

The "Little Drummer Boy" game, also known as the Little Drummer Boy Challenge, is a seasonal game where participants try to avoid hearing any version of the song "The Little Drummer Boy". The game starts at 12:01 AM on Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) and ends at midnight on December 23rd. If a player hears even a snippet of the song, they are out.

If you amazingly win, a special prize from Homegrown Bagels awaits you at the bakery after Xmas. Remember this Hole silliness is obviously on the honor system.
Good luck and don't listen! BEWARE! The Little Drummer Boy is everywhere!
