Lettuce leaf basil is highly prized for its massive, hand-sized, crinkled leaves and mild, sweet flavor. It is primarily used as a robust, herbal substitute for traditional lettuce in sandwiches and wraps, as a delicate base for mild pesto, and in fresh salads. The gigantic, soft leaves are perfect for wrapping fresh veggies, grilled chicken, tofu, or fish. Float whole leaves on soups or steep them in hot water for herbal tea. It acts as a natural pest deterrent when planted near tomatoes and peppers.
It grows like a champion, the leaves can grow as big as 6 to 7 inches! As long as you don't sow too deep and give it some space, this is the ideal basil. Grown in a pot, raised bed or in the garden. 🪴
