I was seven when I was called down to the office because I was going home early from school- I felt like the cool kid. Ten minutes later I was in our kitchen watching the โ€œtwin brothersโ€ as my mom called them- collapsing to the ground. && if I am being honest, it doesnโ€™t feel like 25 years ago.

Each year on this day I ask my mom, a Brooklyn girl who worked in the south tower how she feels- I think her answer has been the same since the first year- โ€œI donโ€™t know.โ€ If you were to ask me, Iโ€™d say the same thing- I mean, how is one supposed to feel after such a traumatic tragedy?

But the one thing I remember clearly is what happened the next day- how the world seemed to come together. People helping strangers- collecting and donating food, clothes, even toys (I gave a few of mine). My mom made pins that everyone in my town wore and for a moment, we were ๐’๐’๐’† - one country, one community, one family, choosing each other.

So, today we pause- not just to remember, but to stand together.

We hold close the lives lost, the heroes who ran toward danger, and the families whose world changed forever.

&& we honor them by choosing ๐’–๐’๐’Š๐’•๐’š, ๐’Œ๐’Š๐’๐’…๐’๐’†๐’”๐’”, and the simple truth that we are all part of one community- ๐’๐’๐’† ๐’‡๐’‚๐’Ž๐’Š๐’๐’š, showing up for each other in the ways that matter most.
