The machines aināt taking over because theyāre smarter than us.
Theyāre taking over because we keep doing exactly what they tell us to do.
And Iām about done cooperating.
I walked into the grocery store to buy groceries. I didnāt apply for a job. I didnāt get interviewed. Nobody trained me. Nobody gave me a name tag.
So why am I suddenly the cashier?
Think about how crazy this has gotten.
The store gets rid of the employee, puts a machine in their place, makes ME scan everything, bag everything and pay them, then the same machine starts watching me like Iām fixing to steal something because I put the bananas in the wrong spot.
Hold on.
You made me an unpaid cashier, gave me absolutely no training, and now if I screw up YOUR job, Iām the suspect?
Thatās one heck of a business model.
And they sold the whole thing to us as āconvenience.ā
Convenient for who?
Because it sure is convenient for the company that doesnāt have to pay another employee.
Iām not against technology. I use it every single day. But technology is supposed to help people, not slowly erase people while corporations convince us to celebrate doing more work ourselves.
There used to be a person behind that register. Somebody making a paycheck. Somebody who might say good morning, crack a joke, help an older person, or notice somebody having a rough day.
Now you get a screen telling you thereās an āunexpected item in the bagging area.ā
Maybe Iām old-fashioned, but Iāll take the human.
If thereās a cashier open, Iāll wait.
If a business gives me a choice between a person and a machine, Iām picking the person.
Because at some point weāve gotta quit surrendering every little piece of normal human life just because somebody in a boardroom figured out how to save another dollar.
Sarah Connor fought Skynet.
Iām over here fighting self-checkout at Walmart.
Smaller budget. Same attitude.
Whatās one piece of technology or āconvenienceā youāre flat-out tired of?
