Everybody asks why we’re called North River. The answer has been sitting right outside our window for about 400 years. 🌊
In the early 1600s, the Dutch colony called the Hudson the Noort Rivier, or North River. The Delaware was the South River, and the Connecticut was the Fresh River. The name never fully went away. Ship captains still use “North River” on the radio, and you’ll see it on the North River piers and the North River Tunnels.
So when you eat an oyster on our deck, you’re eating on the North River, just like people have here for a very long time.
