Itās Story Time!
Once upon a time, long before the smell of fresh pizza filled this building, this spot was home to Laddās Garage, owned by Maurice Ladd.
The two bays on the right, where our kitchen now lives, were once home to auto repairs, radiator repairs, and, at one point, even gasoline! Basically, if it had wheels, an engine, or needed fixing, there was a pretty good chance it happened right here.
And where you sit in our dining room is? That used to be a gun shop, complete with a full machine shop where parts could be fabricated.
Our current storage area had a whole different purpose as well. It was once an apartment for the Ladd family. So yes, people actually lived where we now store all the stuff we somehow never seem to have enough room for.
Maurice had the building for sale for quite a while, and took it down. Then along came Barry, Alās Al's Pizza former owner. As luck would have it, Barry approached him on the exact day Maurice had finally decided he was ready to sell again. Talk about being in the right place at the right time!
One of our previous beloved employees also had connection to the buildingās history. Their former spouse was involved in renovating the building into the Alās Pizza we know today.
And when did we move in? During the flood of 1987! Peek the pic! Apparently opening a pizza shop wasnāt exciting enough on its own. We needed a little natural disaster thrown into the story too.
So there you have it. A little piece of Alās history that goes way beyond pizza!
Who remembers this place back when it was Laddās Garage? Weād love to hear your stories, memories, and maybe even some pictures if you have them. Tell us what you remember! š
