Café Acadiana has been quietly serving Louisiana cooking here since 2013

You don't have to drive to New Orleans or Lafayette to find a restaurant with actual Louisiana roots.

You can drive to Silverhill.

Café Acadiana sits at 16137 Silverhill Avenue, and the story behind this little Baldwin County restaurant is almost as good as the food.

Owner and chef Gerald Ardoin grew up in Opelousas, Louisiana, and began working at his father's restaurant, Ardoin's Seafood, in 1979. He later operated his own Café Acadiana in Opelousas before eventually moving to Baldwin County with his wife, Christina.

After settling in Silverhill, Gerald eventually decided to get back into the restaurant business.

The Alabama version of Café Acadiana opened September 3, 2013.

More than a decade later, it's still there.

The restaurant describes itself as a small, family-oriented operation specializing in authentic Cajun cuisine along with American and seafood dishes. Its menu includes Louisiana favorites such as crawfish étouffée, boudin balls and Shrimp Opelousas.

But here's the part I love.

Silverhill isn't exactly where a visitor headed to Gulf Shores would expect to find a Cajun restaurant with this kind of backstory. That's precisely what makes places like this so interesting.

The beaches have enormous restaurants, giant signs and packed tourist corridors. Then a few miles inland you've got small Baldwin County towns where some of the area's most interesting food is sitting in an unassuming building on the main road.

As of September 2026, Café Acadiana's own website still lists it as operating at the Silverhill location, with lunch Tuesday through Saturday and dinner hours Wednesday through Saturday.

Sometimes the best Coastal Alabama finds aren't actually on the coast.

They're hiding one little town inland.
