🍷Department 66, Painted Scars by Dave Phinney. R/ 94
Once again, Phinney shines with a unique red blend from the Pyrenees mountain range that forms the border between France and Spain. Based on old vine 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah. Dark fruit, clove, licorice. This wine is dense, broad, and intense🍇

What’s with that label?
The image was taken from a page in a 19th-century anatomy book. Mexican tattoo artist Dr. Lakra (a.k.a. Jeronimo Lopez Ramirez) used microfibre brushes to apply his iconic tattoo art to the man’s skin. Phinney, a fan and collector of Dr. Lakra’s work, chose this artwork for its captivating details. You could easily get lost in the eyes of the owl or the woman’s gaze on his right-hand forearm; such is the mesmerising quality of the piece. Similarly, you can get lost in this wine and its captivating intensity.

Bordeaux blend- 62% CS, 14% CF, 12% M/M. Very approachable, black fruit, soft tannins, great balance, and structure. Guests are drawn to the name and makes this an easy sell. Inviting for both new wine drinkers and connoisseurs🍇

🍷Decoy, Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma, 2022. R/93
Though common among retail stores, decoy’s recognition brings comfort to the non-daring. dark fruits with a hint of raspberry. This classic California Cabernet is a people pleaser 🍇

Merlot-Bordeaux, primary grape of the right bank. Grown around the world. used as varietal and blending grape. Known for its rich fruit, light tannins, softness and freshness.

T-Sideways ‘04 (movie), touring wineries in Santa Barbara, CA. The movie slammed Merlot, which was very popular at the time, and praised Pinot Noir. The sales of Merlot sunk 2% while that sales of Pinot Noir’s increased 16%. It’s estimated Merlot farmers lost an estimated $400 million over the next decade.
