Ojingeo-bokkeum is a festive dish you could prepare yourself to take to that awesome New Year's Eve party you definitely got invited to! We'll be selling bulk squid for your NYE needs all day Monday and Tuesday, and until noon on Wednesday.

BUT if you would rather grab something that's ready to shove right into your mouth, then you can just grab a to-go box and eat it in your car on the way home because who are we kidding, you didn't get invited to a New Year's Eve party. And that's okay, too!

Today I'm going to introduce you to a simple, flavorful seafood dish called ojingeo-bokkeum. It's spicy Korean stir-fried squid, one of my all-time favorite dishes. It's easy to make that if you do it once you'll probably be able to make for the rest of your life! : ) This recipe is very special...

I would like to apologize; we never want to deceive our customers.

But the truth is, those suckers were TASTY. Still, all we sell is squid.

One of our favorite customers, Jean Marcos, just came back from a trip to the Philippines and brought us a few bags of these delicious squid chips! We've eaten a couple but we have a few left and are going to have a giveaway next week! Guys. You will never believe it!

On New Years Eve, we were approached by someone very high up in the organization that owns a popular seafood chain we cannot name, but like us it is also named after a water-dwelling creature, specifically a crustacean. And its name includes a colorful description of that crustacean, specifically what it looks like after it has been cooked.

Anyway, they were interested in purchasing the rights to franchise our little squid purveyorship! Our lawyers met with their lawyers (that's actually a pretty funny story... we had to get some lawyers, and you wouldn't believe how difficult it is to find attorneys with an affinity for mollusks) and months of negotiation and paperwork started.

As we were nearing an agreement, Hal noticed something: The scarlet crustacean people wanted to expand our menu, adding entrees besides "just" squid. We insisted that expansion could only happen if squid were the exclusive meat sold.

After a tense stand-off, we walked away from a $4.4 million deal, but we couldn't be prouder. We know what we have, and no one's going to change it!

Mention this story when you stop by and... we'll bite your head off. So just don't.

As you know, it's just tradition for kids getting picked up from a week, month, or all summer at camp to ask their parents to take them to their favorite restaurant: Squid-to-Go!

Are you planning your eclipse party? Might we suggest Eclipse Eggs? Just boil eggs, cut them in half across rather than length-wise, make your regular deviled eggs, but just add a bit of squid ink so the yolks will be black, then refill the yolk indentions and smooth filling with a knife. Voila: Eclipse Eggs! Note that squid ink adds a briny umami, so use sparingly at first and taste it before adding more. It's also nutritious! Read more about cooking with squid ink here, and come on by the shop to pick up a jar! Come earlier than later; we expect to run out!
