Maria's Italian Kitchen Real Italian Food by Real Italian Women Maria’s Italian Kitchens is one of those grand American success stories.

Maria’s Italian Kitchens often remind guests of the casual, sometimes boisterous, neighborhood eateries of another era. It began in the Italian quarter of Hoboken, New Jersey, where Madelyn’s mother, Maria, grew up learning the recipes for real Italian food of Naples from her mother, Luisa. This home-grown education in the fundamentals of Napolitano sauces, soups, dressings, ravioli, lasagna and other regional fare was put to delicious use in 1968 when the Alfano’s and their five young children moved to Los Angeles and bought a tiny grocery store called the “Village Mart” in L.A.’s prestigious Brentwood Village located at Barrington Street and Sunset Blvd. and converted the one car garage into the first Maria’s Italian Kitchen in 1975. She must have learned her lessons well because that first Maria’s Italian Kitchen was a huge success. In 1985, Maria’s daughter, Madelyn Alfano followed in her footsteps and opened the first table-service Maria’s Italian Kitchen in Sherman Oaks. Madelyn ultimately expanded the successful concept to nine more locations, and still personally supervises the kitchens and oversees all the restaurants. Each one carries on the Alfano tradition of warmhearted service, painstaking attention to detail, and a commitment to using only the highest quality ingredients. To this day, Maria’s Italian Kitchen is proud to be a family-run operation. And we will welcome you like a member of our own family.

Meet Shannon! 👋

She’s been part of the Maria’s team for 2.5 years as a server and shift leader, and when it comes to picking a favorite dish, Carbonara takes the top spot 🍝

Her three words for Maria’s? Homey, family-oriented, and good food.

We think that sums it up pretty well!

POV: you said you’d just get a salad… then the fall menu had other plans. 👀🥗

One veggie dish turns into a pasta, then something for the table, and suddenly “just a salad” is a full-on feast!

No regrets. Which vegetarian favorite are you ordering first?

Every table tells a story ❤️

The first bite you’ve been thinking about all day. The conversation that makes you lose track of time. The moment you realize you definitely have room for dessert.

At Maria’s, sometimes the best part of going out to eat is everything happening around the food!

In celebration of Los Angeles’ 245th birthday, LA2050 and KCRW’s Good Food brought together 74 local chefs, restaurateurs, and food lovers to share the dishes that capture the spirit of our city.

We’re so proud to see Maria's Italian Kitchen's own Madelyn Alfano included among the LA restaurant owners and food voices featured in this year’s LA2050 Birthday Book! Here’s to the people, flavors, and restaurants that make Los Angeles such a special place to call home ❤️

A sweet Maria’s Italian Kitchen moment! ❤️

Owner Maddy Alfano recently stopped by our West Los Angeles location as a family visiting from Texas was coming for a bite. Knowing they were visiting from the South, Maddy grabbed her fav cowgirl hat she purchased in Fort Worth and couldn’t resist taking a photo with the family. 🤠

When she asked how they found Maria’s, they shared that they had seen the great reviews online and decided to stop in on their way back from the Santa Monica Pier. Thank you for the love!

Fill the table with Maria’s favorites, pass the plates around, and make your own Italian feast. The hardest part is deciding what to try first!
