Meet Bob! A true Steaming Bean regular since the beginning βοΈ While heβs never been much of a coffee drinker, Bob has been fueling up with mochas (with the whipped cream!) here for nearly three decades. Originally from the Bay Area, he moved here for the milder climate and the promise of 330 days of great weather each year βοΈ π΄
Bob is a puzzle solver with a philosophy degree, a curiosity about the mysteries of the universe, and the need to solve the unknown. His interest in physics and cosmology has led him to write 3 books exploring the origins of the universe. Bob ascribes the success of his books partially to the Steaming Bean. Hours and hours of study within the Bean allowed him to publish the first book in 2007, the second in 2020, and the third in 2022. Since then, the last book has been rewritten and is now on its fourth edition! π π«π
Around here he is known as a game maker. Bob first made The Ellery Quest (for his son), and then Rings (for his daughter). He would come in and test those games by himself right here, which happened to catch another couple regulars attentions. For the past 10 years, Bob, Donna, and Deb have been part of the Monday morning rhythm here, meeting up and competing in Rings. You can tell who is winning by the shouting and cheering in their corner! π§©
When heβs not designing games, writing essays, or making a good murder mystery from scratch, Bob enjoys being outside playing pickleball or golf β³οΈ
Bob takes care of us at The Bean, always asking if there is anything we need fixed. He even bought and installed a ceiling fan to keep us cool years ago! You can thank Bob for building us our blender box, the invention that keeps our blender from being super loud and annoying π
If you ask Bob what keeps him coming back heβll tell you, βItβs the people. The welcoming attitude of the staff and the familiar faces that make the Steaming Bean feel like a genuine meeting place and a second home.β Weβre lucky to have you as part of the Bean family, Bob! π
