We've had a few requests for a repost of our Christmas Wish from a few years back. Here you go.
"Truth is, I think miracles happen every day. Part of what makes Christmas so special is that, for a brief time, we’re actually open to believing in them. Think of the kids watching out the window hoping to catch a glimpse of reindeer. Or parents watching the driveway waiting for family to arrive home for the holiday. It’s the anticipation that heightens our senses and opens our hearts to things that are bigger than ourselves. That’s when we truly believe in the possibility and the miracles happen. I wonder how the anticipation would build if you were a shepherd following a star?
Our memories of Christmases past only add to the anticipation. Close your eyes and concentrate. Maybe you’ll smell fresh cut pine and woodsmoke. Or hear a thousand footsteps from excited kids running to find their stockings. Remember the taste of cookies still warm from the oven? A personal memory, as clear as that Christmas star, is standing in my grandparent’s barn and hearing my Dad telling me to breathe deep and know that was the first thing baby Jesus would have smelled. For just one second, it takes me back to being 10 years old with my Dad. That’s nothing short of miraculous!
Francis Church once told 8 year old Virginia O’Hanlon, “Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist…”. Mr. Church went on to explain that Virginia’s friends, who had lost their faith in Father Christmas, were “affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age”. In a world where we have to be so suspicious and necessarily question the reality of everything, have we come so far from Virginia’s world? Do we actually believe our experiences (as a member of whatever tribe you associate with) are so different from the experiences of others? People of all races and religions, from all the cultures on Earth, share memories of their celebrations and experience the anticipation of waiting for miracles to come. Maybe we’re really not so different after all. Certainly we would all benefit by sharing love, generosity and devotion rather than suspicion and skepticism. Maybe this is the year we can expand on that. It only takes a miracle."
As is our tradition, we have a simple wish for all of you. We wish you Health & Happiness, Prosperity & Peace. Merry Christmas from all of us at Rue 6, Squire Wards & The Pasta Barn.
