A small, good Post Script:
It's getting pretty wild out there.
Y'all might be able to ignore it, or distract yourself while it happens, but this country is becoming something I don't recognize. The people in it are becoming something I don't recognize.
I believe in optimism and hope, but I'm scared we've already lost.
Maybe not.
Everyone in America, including you and me, needs to take a hard look at their values and decide what they will or will not tolerate. You'll know, because the feeling will come from your guts, not your brain, and it'll whisper in your ear while you scroll, or ignore the news, or pretend everything is fine with your friends and coworkers.
There might be nothing in there when you listen for that feeling. I get the sense that a lot of Americans will find a blank, dead void in the place where conscience lives, filled up with memes and hot takes and the self-absorption of performative online activism.
But if you hear that voice and you can't ignore it... it's probably time to get uncomfortable. It's time to do the things that you're scared of, or things that might be outside of your normal risk window.
Marching in a circle with clever signs isn't going to do it this time, and you know that. That's why you're afraid.
But the world that is coming is much scarier, and I promise, you won't be able to ignore it.
Figure out who you are and what you believe in, then act. Or fu***ng don't.
