Persian gardens and architecture place enormous importance on water features for several interconnected reasons:
Symbolic and Spiritual
Water represents life, purity, and paradise in Persian culture. The word “paradise” itself comes from the Old Persian pairidaeza, meaning an enclosed garden — and water was central to that ideal. So, here at Viva Mex, we bring you this paradise!

Look at her. 😍
This oil painting of my late mother is one of my greatest treasures. She’s wearing the most stunning traditional Middle Eastern dress, and she looks absolutely magnificent — because she was.
I lost her a few years ago, but her grace, her culture, and her spirit live on. This Mother’s Day, I’m celebrating HER. 💐
Happy Mother’s Day to everyone holding the memory of a mother close today. You are not alone. ❤️ ❤️

At Viva Mexicana we believe that food should be holistic in the truest sense of the word. This means it should be nourishing, flavorful, bring joy, be an experience not just fill the belly, and on the most essential level, to be made with love. We love what we do, and care for the food deeply, where it comes from in the Earth, and how it is served on a plate, and the goal through that process, owner Sima says, is to bring people together.

Ordinary beauty: mosaic glass work and samovar resting on the back wall of the bar at Viva Mexicana, catching all the light flooding through the windows. Did you know, mosaic glass work dates back thousands of years? And the samovar is a central symbol of hospitality in Persian culture. A samovar is rarely hidden away; it is historically placed in the center of the home or table, acting as a constant source of hot water and a symbol of welcome for guests, who are almost immediately offered tea upon arrival.

The wingless heart mosaics have been lovingly crafted by local artist Jane Kelly.

This captivating painting, by local artist, Nara, is called “Everywhere All at Once.”

You can see Nara’s art gracing some of the walls of the restaurant, one among a few local gems whose beautiful little offerings of art adorn the restaurant.

Did you know of some of the surprising yet deep links between Mexico and Persia? Both are considered cradles of civilization, the Achaemenid Empire in Persia and the Aztec/Maya/Olmec civilizations in Mexico. Both cultures hold poetry and storytelling in high regard, with shared themes of human values and national epics. The Shahnameh (Persian Book of Kings) is highly regarded by Mexican cultural figures, and Iranian poets, such as Mohsen Emadi, have lived and worked in Mexico. And the cuisines of both cultures share several warm and aromatic spices used to create depth in stews, meats, and rice dishes, including cumin, cinnamon, coriander, cloves, cardamom, turmeric, and allspice.

Experience these connections brought to life at Viva Mexicana, where head chef Sima Mohamdian presents the cuisines of Mexico and Persia side by side—not fused, but in dialogue—offering a truly concurrent culinary experience.
