PATINA presents a collection of works by Norman Rueter, a q***r artist whose practice transforms found materials into meditations on memory, identity, and time. Through carefully composed arrangements of discarded objects and everyday fragments, the exhibition explores how lives accumulate, stories endure, and meanings are reimagined.
Working with found objects, weathered copper, worn wood, and unexpected treasures, Norman used his workshop in the Broadview neighborhood of Seattle to transform the overlooked into works that shimmer with resilience, and possibility. Every piece carries the rich patina of lived experience.
At 83, Norman’s creative endeavors span decades of profound social and cultural change. Everly Seattle (www.everlyseattle.org) worked with Norman through their Senior Services Program which helps q***r seniors downsize and declutter as they work to age safely in place or prepare for new adventures. Norman and his husband Robert welcomed Everly into their home to help with a few projects and staff were so excited to see Norman’s work on display in the house and wanted to share it with the community.
PATINA, art by Norman Rueter, is the first client art show for Everly Events, an ongoing effort to showcase q***r seniors. Norman’s work is universally resonant, as we all share the desire to see beautiful things be made out of simple, everyday items. His sculptures invite us to consider what we preserve, what we discard, and how age, identity, and history leave their impressions for all to enjoy.
PATINA celebrates the grace of imperfection and the poetry of reuse, reminding us that the most meaningful transformations often begin with what others have left behind.
