We'd like to let everyone know that parking on Morrow Lane (the road between Greenwood Ave N and Palatine Ave N) is no longer free for one hour. Anyone who parks there without paying can be ticketed. The normal rate is $3 / hr.

The agency who manages those spots has been known to be quite diligent, so be careful!

FRIENDS, SOME SAD NEWS

For almost 5 years now, the Green Bean - your second living room - has been in our current location. As the end of our lease drew near we put together a team to consider our options, and after discussing it with our landlord, our lease will not be extended, and will expire this fall.

We imagine this news carries with it a variety of emotions for anyone that has known and loved the Green Bean. For ourselves, we grieve. Grief because we've seen so much beauty, goodness, hospitality, community, and grace in this space. But we do not grieve without hope, because we believe the God who gives of all that beauty, goodness, hospitality, community, and grace, can do the same again anywhere. Even as you are reading this, we are looking for “what’s next.” We will continue to work with other organizations in the neighborhood to build connections and practice radical hospitality with all who live in Greenwood.

If you were not already aware, the Green Bean was actually founded and supported by Sanctuary Church, which meets just around the corner in Taproot Theatre every Sunday at 10am. Our mission is loving our neighbors as ourselves, and creating a hospitable space to embody the love of Christ in this neighborhood. The Green Bean has been the best vehicle we could find for that mission. We don’t know if the Green Bean will continue to have a physical presence in Greenwood, but our mission - or more accurately, God's mission - in this neighborhood has not changed.

We are ever so thankful for all of the memories and relationships built in this space, and for all of the many, many people whose time and talents made it possible all of these years. We will of course let you all know as soon as we can if the future holds more for the Bean, or where you can find us in some new endeavor for the neighborhood. The developers leading the project at the former Safeway down the street are seeking public comments in the form of a survey at the site linked below. This is a great opportunity to share with them what you love about our neighborhood, and what you'd like to see in the space.
