A few interested folks have asked about our name, so we figure we’d give a bit of background.
Voi is a Vietnamese word for elephant. We learned to appreciate how magnificent these gentle giants are on our last trip to Yok Don National Forest in the Vietnam Highlands in 2019. Besides being a part of Vietnam natural heritage, they are also a huge part of the country history. They were companions to all the famous and fierce female warriors in Vietnamese history. Hai Ba Trung, Bui Thi Xuan, and Ba Trieu all rode elephants to fight and defended their homes.
Elephants also happen to live in the central highlands of Vietnam where most of the country coffee is grown. A constant reminder that it is upon us to be responsible in the way we consume coffee. As a small gesture, we are donating to 1% For The Planet to help Animals Asia on their mission to help rescue elephants and reintroduce them into the wild. We believe that this is a right first step and hope to make a bigger impact as we grow.
Lastly, our logo is that of a 5 element flag. A colorful flag often seen at Vietnamese folk festivals. A flag that is intended to raise the spirit of the people to come together for a cause…
Our cause, is to raise the recognition of Vietnamese specialty coffee and the people who are making it happen. To show that it is just as good as coffees from other famous origins. Often times the quiet but tough work that farmers, producers, and roasters who bear so much risk each year are not known to those who drink their coffee. We are working hard to also bring their stories to you so you can truly enjoy your coffee.
