Cold weather is creeping in, and I am putting together some cold-weather dishes for you to try.

🍽️ THIS WEEK’S MENU
1️⃣ Bak K*t Teh: $22
(Pork ribs simmered in a broth of herbs and spices. Spices: including star anise, cinnamon, cloves, d**g quai, fennel seeds, and garlic).

+ Rice= $3

2️⃣ *Udang Petai/Pete Balado: $19
(Padang-style spicy shrimp with sator beans and rice)

3️⃣ Nasi Lemak: $18 (VERY POPULAR)
Rice w/ spiced fried chicken, spicy hard-boiled egg, sambal, and spicy peanut w/ fried anchovies.

4️⃣ Bubur Ayam Jakarta: $16
Rice congee, filled with minced garlic, shredded chicken, and Umami flavor. Then topped with scallions, and a side of Chai Kwe (Chinese doughnut)
5️⃣ Seafood Laksa: $25 (VERY POPULAR)
Egg & rice noodle filled with curry broth, bokchoy, bean sprouts & seafood: fish, shrimp & mussels.

Drinks: $8 (6 oz.)

- Taro Yoghurt Drink

- Mango Cream Soda (made with fresh Mango)

When presenting a dish during an interview with Bon Appétit, I wanted to make sure that not only I'm representing the Indonesian culture, the dishes, and flavor. I also wanted to make sure the flavor and presentation speak itself, and everything within the elements shows up!
This cultural food is so underrepresented in the PNW. Unless you go to SoCal, then you may just see a few, if you're lucky!
Not to brag about it, but I was proud to have been selected. At the same time, I was nervous standing in front of these culinary masters. Knowing someone of their caliber can appreciate the S.E cultural dishes I was able to whip, especially from someone who is less of their caliber.
In the overall experience, I will admit, it turns out quite well. I hope they will publish the cultural dishes I have presented, and I hope to be invited back again.

A very busy week ahead, and prepping for my Bon Appétit interview! But I made sure I have enough time to create this menu for the upcoming week.

🍽️ THIS WEEK’S MENU
1️⃣ Telur Tahu:$14 🍃
(Fried egg filled with tofu, tomatoes, topped with fried shallots and hoisin sauce on top)

+ Rice= $3

2️⃣ Gado Gado: $16
Crispy steamed vegetables, with hard boiled egg and pan fried tofu, covered in homemade pepper peanut sauce, complete with shrimp chip (kerupuk) on the side.

3️⃣ Sate Ayam Jakarta: $16
5 skewers of chicken sate, lontong, and peanut sauce, with cucumber slices on the side

4️⃣ Nasi Goreng Bali $17
-Fried rice mixed with Balinese spice and flavor, added with chicken, small diced up vegetables, topped with fried egg, and sliced up cucumbers on the side

5️⃣ Seafood Laksa: $25

Fun facts: Did you know if you mix the rinsed rice water with eggshells and banana peel together, let it sit for 24 hours, & use the water for your veggies & fruit garden, they'll thank you 10x in growth. 🪴🌱🌾😍

Fried green beans, stir-fried with spicy garlic sauce and minced ground pork.

2️⃣ Soto Ayam (Indonesian Chicken Rice Noodle Soup): $18
Rice noodles filled with bean sprouts, tomatoes, potato cubes, shredded chicken, egg, and soaked in clear curry broth.

3️⃣ Mie Goreng Seafood: $21
Fried noodles with Asian spices, mixed with vegetables and seafood, containing shrimp, mussel meat, and fish

4️⃣ Nasi Goreng Bali $17
