Sam has been with us for just over a year and has become an invaluable part of our team as one of our Kitchen Leads. Happy 20th Birthday Kayak Kafé !!

This week, our downtown location turned 20. Twenty is a milestone we don’t take lightly. It represents wisdom, hard lessons, and every season imaginable: the highs, the lows, and everything in between. We carry 20 with extreme humility and gratitude.

We’ve watched Broughton Street evolve from its early days. When we first opened, there were only a handful of local businesses starting their journeys, just like us. Over the years, we’ve weathered recessions, a global pandemic, and a streetscape renovation that tested our patience. There were moments we didn’t know if we’d make it, but we kept going.

Savannah has watched us grow. Thanks to the success of our downtown location, we were able to expand and open our midtown restaurant 11 years ago-another milestone made possible by this community.

What began as a small cafe slowly grew into something more. With intention, consistency, and hard work, we found our place as Savannah’s healthy eats destination. We embraced early on that there was room for fresh, nourishing food in a city known for Southern cooking.

The pandemic, while incredibly difficult, gave us the chance to restructure and reset. We built a strong core team and reframed our operations around life skills: leading with candor, communicating with clarity and working with purpose. Creating a positive culture has always been our dream and slowly but surely, we’ve made it a reality.

Along the way, countless employees have been part of our story. Each person who showed up, cared deeply, and believed in what we were building left their mark. Owning a restaurant isn’t easy. The daily challenges have instilled in us tenacity, teaching us to adapt, embrace patience, and trust the journey.
Each season brings new challenges, but the greatest lesson has been learning to thrive through them.

To our community and patrons-our regulars, neighbors, students, and tourists—thank you. Thank you for believing in us, for being part of this incredible city we call home, and for allowing us to feed you for two decades.

Our wish is to continue being your go-to spot for fresh, healthy eats. Here's to many more years ahead! Thank you 🙏🏻💚
