🇺🇸 Happy VFW Day! 🇺🇸
September 29 | |
Today, we proudly celebrate VFW Day, honoring the founding of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the generations of veterans who continue to serve our nation - in uniform, in our communities, and on Capitol Hill.
🎖️ Founded on September 29, 1899, by 13 veterans of the Spanish-American War and the Philippine Insurrection, the VFW became the first organization to welcome all ranks, all branches, and all veterans who served in foreign campaigns. That commitment to unity and inclusion set the stage for a lasting legacy of service, advocacy, and support.
For 127 years, the VFW has led the charge to protect and uplift those who have worn the uniform. Its motto, "No One Does More for Veterans," isn’t just a slogan - it’s a proven record.
🏛️ Historic Achievements of the VFW:
✅ Advocated for the creation of the Veterans Administration (now VA)
✅ Instrumental in passing the original GI Bill of Rights (1944)
✅ Fought for compensation for Agent Orange exposure in Vietnam veterans
✅ Helped modernize education benefits through the Post-9/11 GI Bill
✅ Championed the passage of the SFC Heath Robinson Honoring Our PACT Act (2022), expanding care for veterans exposed to toxic substances
✅ Supported Tricare for Life and healthcare protections for military retirees
✅ Led efforts to improve mental health care and su***de prevention
✅ Advocates for the return and recognition of POW/MIAs
✅ Supports military families, survivors, and spouses through dedicated programs and legislative action
💙 Whether you're a veteran, a family member, a VFW member, or simply a proud American 🇺🇸 - today is a day to reflect, recognize, and recommit to our veterans.
