DAY 8 of 17 ||| 17 Days of Latin Love
Did you know the “Chicks” in Latin Chicks has always been about the chicken? 😌

For 17 years, our Peruvian rotisserie chicken has been at the heart of what we do—marinated with flavorful Latin spices, roasted until golden, and served juicy and tender.

Recipes have been added, menus have changed, and our Latin Chicks family has grown…but the chicken that started it all remains one of our most-loved dishes.

What’s your favorite side to eat with our rotisserie chicken? Rice, beans, maduros, yuca fries—or something else?
In Peru the popular sides are French fries and salad. I particularly love my dark meat piece of chicken with rice beans and plantains.
What are yours?

Day 7 of 17 ||| Did you know our churros don’t come frozen in a box?

We make them completely from scratch, right here in our kitchen—from preparing the dough, to shaping each churro, frying it until golden and crispy, and finishing it with cinnamon sugar.

No frozen churros. No shortcuts. This is the real deal!

We’re proud to be the only place we know of in Savannah making churros completely from scratch and today, we’re taking you behind the scenes to prove it!

After 17 years, we still believe the love you put into the process makes all the difference.
Last video is the best!

How do you like your churros? Filled? Skinny? What flavor do you like? Dulce de leche, chocolate, strawberry?

DAY 6 OF 17 DAYS OF LATIN LOVE - You grew with us! Have long have you been coming to Latin Chicks?

After 17 years, some of our youngest customers aren’t so little anymore! The first two pictures in this post were taken more than 10 years ago, and seeing them brings back so many beautiful memories.

Over the years, we haven’t only watched Latin Chicks grow. We’ve watched babies become teenagers, families grow, visitors become regulars, and regulars become friends. Today’s post is about our customers who are the reason why we turn 17. We couldn’t do it without you.

Thank you for growing with us and allowing us to be part of your lives!

DAY 5 OF 17 . Look at our first menu from 2009, yeah that’s 17 years ago…

If you could only order ONE thing from Latin Chicks (for the rest of your life lol)… what would your order be??

Our menu has evolved over the years, from our famous rotisserie chicken to our Cuban sandwiches, empanadas, churrasco, arroz, Latin bowls, wraps and of course, those churros 🤤

Looking back at some of our old menus is like opening a little time capsule.
Prices have definitely changed ($4.99 value meal!!) 😂, designs have changed, and we’ve added new things along the way…

But the goal has always been the same:
Good food. Big portions. Latin flavor. And food that feels like home.

So what’s your Latin Chicks order? Possibly it’s not in our 2009 menu.

DAY 4 of 17 ||| 17 Days of Latin Love
Do you recognize any of these faces? Call them out! Or something about them if you can’t remember their name.
Where was your first job? Do you remember it?

For us it all started in 2009, and these are some of the faces who helped make Latin Chicks what it was in those very first days.

Before the busy days, the catering, the food truck, the awards, the crazy stories, and everything Latin Chicks has become… there was a small team of people who showed up, worked hard, learned together, laughed together, and helped us figure it all out.

They weren’t just employees.
They were part of the beginning.

And one of the most beautiful things about owning a business for 17 years is realizing that some people who worked for you years ago never really stop being part of your story.

I’m lucky enough to still keep in touch with several of our former employees, and they will always have a very special place in my heart.

Some of them were with us for a season.
Some stayed much longer.
But every one of them left a little piece of themselves in Latin Chicks. Through the good and the bad, they were in for the daily battles and enjoyment and of course… a great perk… the chicken! :)

Missing some images from some employees that I still keep touch with that started in the first years of Latin chicks and it’s one of those times when you wished you would have taken more pictures! But you know who you are!

DAY 3 of 17 ||| 17 DAYS OF LATIN LOVE

3 things we never imagined when we opened:

1) Still being here 17 years later, seeing generations of customers

2) Becoming part of the Savannah community, our bond with the community became stronger when COVID happened, surviving this difficult time was something that was in question too.

3) Becoming catering experts + food truck, with our third Mobile unit in the works.

What is something you have seen change in Savannah in the last 17 years? Or something you never expected in your life and/or business?

Day 2 of 17 ||| 17 DAYS OF LATIN LOVE
What would YOU have named Latin Chicks?

Believe it or not, Latin Chicks almost had a very different name.

When Martín and I were trying to come up with a name back in 2009, we originally thought about Sabor Latino or Sazón Latino… but we quickly realized we weren’t in love with either one.

And honestly, we worried that Sazón might be a little difficult for English speakers to pronounce. 😅

So Martín started throwing out ideas:

🐔 “Poh-e-os & Choo-ros”
🐔 “Poh-e-os”
🐔 “Sabor”
🐔 “Ají”
🐔 “New Chick”
🐔 “South A Chick”

Then came the phone call where we had to finally make a decision (because we really legally needed to register the name)

We both agreed we wanted something with “Chick” in the name because, well… chicken! 🐔

But we also wanted people to immediately know it was Latin American.

So we thought:

“The Latin Chicks.”
Or maybe “Latín Chicks.”

Martín said, “I like Latin Chicks.”

And then we realized something kind of funny…

At the time, Miriam and I were literally two Latin chicks trying to create a restaurant… but really, it’s all about the chicken. 😂🐔❤️

And just like that… Latin Chicks was born.

17 years later, I STILL wonder…

Did we pick the best name?! 🤔 there is some controversy sometimes…because it sounds you know… like a Latin woman and men getting that name in the bank statements could look a little promising lol. But anyway, you know what we picked!
But we now we want to hear from YOU:

Which name would YOU have picked?

And for fun, swipe through the old logo concepts our designer Rodrigo created for us back then.

Can you guess which one we chose? 👀🐔

I will also tell you how we will be doing our giveaways.

Now, story time…
Mary, Martin and Miriam.
Mary — Peruvian and hungry for her food
Martin and Miriam— Mexican couple.
Miriam —an international chef and Martin an entrepreneur.

Mary and Martin met at an entrepreneurship class in 2008 at Armstrong University, they worked in a project together for the class and became friends which then led to hours of conversation to come to realize that they actually had a similar real life project in destiny.

Mary was hungry for her Peruvian food and just a Warm , Fast, Healthy and Delicious meal like she found in every corner in Peru.

In 2009 there was no place in town to find a warm, healthy meal served fast, only fast food which was typically thrown into a fryer and served with no love, not much elaboration and no Latin American flavors.
And by Latin American, we don’t mean Mexican food 🤪

Martin had spent many years in Miami and was aware of the lack of Latin American food in the area and wanted to have real home made churros.

Regardless of Terrible economic times at that moment, Mary and Martin saw an opportunity.
They found a location at the Oglethorpe Mall that would make a good set up for their fast casual idea.
Mary put her life savings and Martin had a successful painting business but his wife Miriam was the food genius who helped create all of our recipes except for the rotisserie chicken one. Mary went to Peru to specialize in Peruvian Chickology, she came back when she earned her PhD 😅.

Mary had just graduated from Armstrong with an Economics degree and a plan to start a career at Edward Jones, but the idea of having a dream business and Martin and Miriam as partners it was way too good pass up. They pulled the trigger and took the Opportunity.
Latin Chicks was going to be real.

Let’s do some basic math… On Sept 1st 2013, we turned 4! Which means, next month we will be…. Yes 17! Unbelievable!

In the next few days we are going to recap our story, share many things you didn’t know about Latin Chicks, remember our previous employees, we will have some deals, and some give aways, we are going to do 17 Days of Latin Love. Please stay tuned, certainly Latin Chicks was born from the founders’ dreams and it stayed in business with a lot of resilience but definitely and more importantly, a lot of love went into it which is truly what it kept it alive.

Now, putting romance to the side, we know that love is not enough to survive (your grandma is right). Our customers and employees kept us alive, but without the love that went into the food prepared and our loyal customers that felt that love in our food, today - we wouldn’t be here.

Join us in this nostalgic moment in the coming up days… there will be something for everyone :)
