We were so happy and excited to have the writer of Steel Magnolias for lunch yesterday! What an honor to meet the man who lived and wrote the beloved Southern Classic, such a gentleman.

"Mrs. Wilkes’ Dining Room was a reminder of family Sunday meals when I was a little girl in West Virginia. It was the best fried chicken and sweet tea I’ve had in a long time. It was a space for connection and enjoyment around a family-style meal. There were so many options, and each one was delicious. My favorites were the fried okra, black-eyed peas, and cabbage. Everything was so wonderful. Not pictures were the banana pudding and peach cobbler, which were dreamy and a perfect ending to a long lunch." -

"This was my first time, and it was amazing. I got there around 945am on a Friday and just missed the first round by a couple of people. It took about 30 more mins to get in and get a table. The food is all already out and ready as you sit, and you help yourself and pass down. The chicken was as advertised. The sides were all amazing! And the dessert was the best banana pudding I've had. It's definitely a bucket list visit." - Todd G.

We are back at it!

"What a wonderful time these lifelong friends had on our recent trip to Savannah! I knew the Mrs. Wilkes’ experience was a must-do based on my previous visits.. and everyone agreed it was a favorite!

Many girls commented that it reminded them of sitting around their grandmother’s tables… what a compliment that was!

We had several who tried new foods including rutabagas and collards.

Thank you Marcia Thompson for keeping this place special for the rest of the world. It is a treasure, as are you and the whole Mrs. Wilkes’ family!" - Paige Ross
