This is what a Monday night looks like!! We prep for the week’s efforts. 45 backpacks will be provided for students this week. One delivery to a family made already going into the week and we’ll offer support to a few others.

Snack bags will include: a fruit cup, fruit candy, granola bar, cereal bar, cracker pack, Rice Krispie treat, chip. Meal items include a soup, canned pasta w/ meat, side pasta, and we may add a misc. item of a soup, veggie or rice.

Community members will be invited to help in a few weeks as we’ll end another school year. We’ll chat, prepare and pack backpacks for students. Details coming soon!!

As we still have a few weeks left of school ( elementary ends last week this month) and prepare for summer needs, we’ve updated our Amazon Wish List. Had an opportunity to participate at our Wellness Fair today sponsored by the SADD club. I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of this as our students in this club are really very passionate about this opportunity of promoting health and wellness to our students.

Tomorrow marks our 8th year of Galway Backpack Program inspired and designed by Madison DesPres!!
Today, so many students stopped by and while they’ve heard about our program and or know it first hand, we were able to have discussions. The poster boards speak volumes; their responses prompted discussions to hopefully have a better understanding.

The game (permission granted from students to take pics) was an activity I found - the rules were simple- unlimited resource of toothpicks, had to build the tallest structure with the baggie of marshmallows given in 2 minutes time and it had to be standing alone!! After the fact, students realized their resources were not the same but asked to accomplish the same goal. Only the one who structure stood the highest, won a prize!!

Happy Anniversary to this program!! Without this community and their connections to help us keep sustainable, eight years of supporting our students would not be a reality. Stop by at the lawn on Memorial Day and chat with me. Kids receive a free gift!!
