Almost two years ago, we transitioned from pop-up community events to a brick-and-mortar. While we hoped this would be the pub’s forever home, we have made the incredibly difficult decision to close this location at the end of our lease.
The Neighbor’s Pub’s last day of service at the 711 Pacific Avenue location will be Sunday, August 23rd.
We plan to curate pop-up community events while we continue our search for a more suitable location.
This decision was not made lightly. To put it plainly, our rent is extremely high and it has had a ripple effect. Combined with limitations from the city and state, increasing operational costs, seemingly never-ending equipment troubles, and the political climate*, it has become clear that we cannot sustainably exist in this location.
*We recognize the current political climate negatively impacts the pub as it limits folks’ financial abilities + comfort to come out.
Since 2021, we’ve welcomed new beginnings, celebrated q***r newlyweds, and mourned the lives of lost loved ones. We’ve created and shared q***r art together, learned new skills, given back to some wonderful causes, and survived multiple acts of hate. We’ve watched as the anxieties of coming out for the first time were washed away at the rainbow doormat. Most importantly, we were all here in one space, together.
To our bartenders shaking glittery drinks, to the drag performers shaking… other things, to all the folks who came out and showed up, and everyone in between, we couldn’t have made it this far without you. Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, love, support, creativity, and inspiration.
We have been looking for a new location where we can sustainably fulfill our mission. While we continue this search, we plan to curate pop-up events throughout the Santa Cruz County community.
We’ve been together through life’s transitions. We hope you’ll stay for our transitions too. 💕
