Little could he have known the history that was just beginning. When this story appeared just weeks before Prairie Star opened in 1986, the former homeowner provided the inspiration for the headline: “Prairie Star Restaurant Has No History to Tout” in terms of historic events.
The Prairie Star we know today was built around the original 1920s adobe home of Eva Wade Duke, a BIA nurse, and later expanded into the distinctive New Mexico Mission-style residence seen here.
Forty years later, Prairie Star has become A True New Mexico Treasure — shaped by this remarkable home, the beauty of Santa Ana Pueblo, and four decades of memorable meals, celebrations and sunsets.
What a difference 40 years makes.
